The first time I played Killer Queen Black was after the Nintendo Switch was released and I was at the post-E3 event in the Netherlands. One of the demo kiosks was Killer Queen Black and it was hyped as being the ultimate team building game and the standard for coop games. At the time, we were able to play two games and I always felt it was too short to really form an opinion on this game.

Fast forward to earlier this week, the review code had arrived and after finishing up my other duties, I claimed the game. The game was mostly a distant memory and I had barely any real recollection of the ups and downs of the game. So I started the game, knowing what to expect in general, but no longer recollecting that there were three options to grab a victory. So I did the best thing a man can do, I started the tutorial.

And what a tutorial this game has, it goes in full detail on what options you have, letting you achieve said options and then move on to the next option. Learn how to move around like the queen or ride the snail, it does it all in full game mode. I especially loved the fact that you could actually fail the tutorial and were forced to restart the specific chapter of the demo in order to proceed. It did a great job at prepping me for online battle.

Battling online is the same in any game. Some people are better at it and some are not. I was lucky enough to be on the upper hand side of things, but still far from excellent. Maybe going through the tutorial twice really was an added bonus to my initial skills. The reason why is that prior to release, there was a limited window to play online so I could only play locally till then. Nothing wrong with that, nothing at all really.

You can always just create a game with 7 bots and play solo, but yeah, online play is the place to be. The bots can become a little predictive after a while. Killer Queen Black also shines mostly as a game where a lot is going on at the same time. Making it not just a good coop game but also a challenging one. It challenges you to keep your wits about and your eyes on the battlefield. Making sure you have all bases covered and getting your attacks in or keeping your defenses up for that minion that is riding the snail to victory!

In conclusion, Killer Queen Black is a great game when played with friends! If you can get a band of friends together and get your flow on, this game is a guaranteed way to spend hours.
