Hardware Review – Razer Ouroboros Mouse

After being my true companion for almost 12 years, my Logitech mouse finally gave up. So, it is time to replace him with a worthy successor. And while we’re at it, I will be replacing my keyboard as well. There are some requirements that must be met for my next mouse & keyboard. The plan is to buy and try them for at least a week. If I don’t like it, I will use the send-back option and will do that until I find the best mouse & keyboard for my specific needs. So after some searching around, I decided to start with the Razer Ouroboros mouse, which will be reviewed in this review. The keyboard will get its own review, which you should find here in the future.

Let’s start this review with giving an overview of what I require from my mouse. While I am a gamer and I review games for this website, that is not my day-to-day job. So I want to have a mouse that lies comfortably when resting my hand on it, since I will be using it for long extensions of time (sometimes up to 12 hours a day). I am a palm grip mouse user (read here for more information) and thus require that my hand gets fully supported during those times.

I want to have a wireless mouse since my desk often is cluttered with stuff. Since I tend to work at different locations in my office, which is only possible if you aren’t limited to the length of a mouse cable. Plus, I have a cat that loves wires. I had to tie ever cable down from my computer or she plays with them. And it’s not the gently play, but the destructive kind.
Now, the next point is that I don’t really care about a DPI switch nor a sniper button and macro sizzles. I won’t active avoid them, but when I have to choose between two mousses, I’ll use other items to eliminate one of the two.

Here is a quick overview of what my mouse MUST have:
* Full-size mouse
* Comfort
* Not too many buttons
* Wireless
* Suitable for gaming and work

The choice

As I mentioned in the intro, the first mouse I am currently trying, is the Razer Ouroboros, which you can find here.
I am drawn to the fact that the mouse is fully customizable regarding its size. You get an extra set of side panels for your fingers to rest on. You can make the mouse longer or shorter by moving the rear panel and change the tilt of the palm rest.
