E3 2016 starts off tomorrow with the first two big conferences of EA and Bethesda.
Since nothing is official just yet, we take our time to predict what we’ll see in this new prediction piece.
Time for Michiel to tell us what he wants to see:
5) New console or updated version of an older console.
Consoles have evolved very quickly over the last years and it seems like every year there’s a new console or something has been added to the latest version of a certain console. With all these incredible gaming ideas on the surface, it’s hard to imagine that developers won’t use new and improved game engines and new game engines need more power to live up to the promises developers make when it comes to “a new game engine”. Sony is definitely releasing some news on the next update of the PS4 but all the other brands will have to find something to compete with these new systems to hold their ground on the gaming market. Let’s hope something new is being developed.
4) Starting a new era of Virtual Reality.
A lot of VR devices launched this year and a few more will be coming but a lot of people already got their hands on these virtual reality systems while other persons are still figuring this system/ software out. All these VR demos look very cool to get our hands on but they’re still a bit too clunky to game with. There isn’t a VR demo that runs perfectly without any stuttering. I think we’ll see a lot more of these Virtual Reality projects since it can be a big part of the gaming universe. All these possibilities and creativity that are hiding in the background, can finally be developed. New software, new games and new opportunities are waiting to be found. Hopefully, a lot of developers see the same possibilities as gamers do and try to make this software their own. Imagine a duel disk like apparatus from the Yu-Gi-Oh series or a gaming building that can be transformed into one big virtual reality realm. It sounds so awesome!
3) Resurfacing old legends
Developers tend to go back to old popular game series because they think it’s safer instead of taking a risk with new IPs or re- inventing features of an old legend. Of course, it’s a blade that cuts on both sides, it can be safe but since it’s an old legend, chances are high that players expect a lot from the developers to create this “newer” version of a game. Hopefully, developers resurrect old games and make it their own by adding a couple of new features or a new twist while staying true to the original game. I’m thinking about Turok, Beyond Good and Evil or even Red Dead Redemption. A lot can go wrong but then again a lot can go right as well!
2) Interesting New IPs
Developers should make new IPs! There’s too much of the same game series every year, there’s little room left for innovation. A lot of developers lose their creativity due to the toxic gamers community. We have a strong position when it comes to “influencing” a game’s development but this doesn’t mean we should shoot down every innovative feature. Hopefully, developers will make a stand and continue to create an awesome new game with or without the help of our fellow gamers.
1)Competitive play
A lot of developers try to make their game E-sports ready. E- sports are becoming a big deal in our universe and it’s a gold mine for developers when their game rises to the top. A lot of professional players keep playing a certain game to improve their skills and they have a big influence for renewing certain features in a competitive game. A lot more “multiplayer/ competitive ranked gameplay”- games will come forward because this “multiplayer setting” is very popular.
3) MMO’s for the working man
I love playing a good MMO game but too often these MMORPG games are being released in a hurry and lose a lot of their survivability during the process. Developers can’t deliver their big promises to the crowd and lose credibility. The latest MMO’s turned into “free-to-play-games” in a heartbeat. MMO players want big content updates and something to strive for. There still hasn’t been an MMO that rewards “occasional” MMO players. A lot of MMO’s focus on the DIE HARD fans and create a bad RNG- system that punishes occasional MMO players. Hopefully a new MMO is being developed with the working man in mind.
2) Red Dead Redemption
Hopefully Rockstar games gives the community what they want and create a new and improved “Red dead redemption” game! This was the first next- gen console game I played on my XBOX 360 and it was wonderful. The story, mechanics, setting, play world, … all these different pieces fitted in perfectly within this game. I really hope this game is being developed since there are a lot of rumors… Give us the western back!
1) Kingdom Hearts III
I want to relive my childhood memories again with the Kingdom Hearts franchise. This game series is one of my favorites as well as a lot of other fantasy RPG players. We’ve only seen a quick trailer about the gameplay but I want to see more and most of all, I want to see a release date for this game. It’s been in development for too long and my patience is getting low. So please Square Enix, finish the damn game already!
