Can you smell it? E3 is in the air baby. It’s just around the corner and I’m as excited as ever. Do I think anything will beat that crazy stunt Sony did last year? No way in hell. Do I think we are up for some crazy surprises? Hell yes!!
So with that said I will try and talk about my hopes, guesses and dreams for this E3. A fair warning that this time around I’m not so light hearted and do talk some shit about some stuff you like. Like how bad Mighty No.9 looks.
Some Titanfall 2 gameplay.
The first Titanfall was a great game that sadly got overlooked for a myriad of reasons. It was on the least popular console at the time with no single player which people claimed was a big problem. Now the whole no single player argument was always garbage but this time around there is going to be a story with what is called science Vs. magic which sounds dope as hell. Then there is the Titan sword and the rumored grappling hook which get me all giddy in places I shouldn’t. Who wants to bet that titans are going to get some jetpack kind of thing? I really like Titanfall and the more anime they get the better.
Microsoft returns another classic rare series.
When Microsoft bought Rare people were upset. Now not to piss off more people but I think they were on the decline before that. Blame Microsoft or not for mediocre games but the thing is, they just sit there with this giant library of IPs they don’t do anything with. The year they announced the Xbox One they revived one of Rare’s IPs called Killer Instinct. When it was first shown people were extremely skeptical. In the end, it turned out those fears were not necessary as Killer Instinct is still going strong and is one of the best Fighters out there at the moment. So how ’bout it Mickeysoft? You up for reviving another IP? My guess would actually be Battletoads considering Rash’s inclusion in Killer Instinct AND the fact that on all Rare Replay art the Battletoads are the only ones with updated art that sticks out like a beautiful sore thumb. Also, I refuse to believe they made a sculpture of Rash and his well-sculpted ass just for Rare Replay and KI. Battletoads is coming. I can smell it.
More horizon
Last time one of my hopes was seeing the crazy mecha dinosaur game. Horizon Zero Dawn was revealed that year and as I thought it looked amazing. Now I just want to see more of the game. Maybe have it even playable this year. Anyway, we are all but guaranteed to see new gameplay so I’m excited. Last time I talked about the game I wanted to see some crazy mecha dinosaurs but now I want to see those knights with ponchos and oni masks. Either way, whatever they show me is sure to look amazing considering the creative designs.
Nintendo to pull their head out of their ass.
Time to talk about the big one. Nintendo. For those of you out of the loop, Nintendo announced that they only have Zelda on the Wii U to show. No 3DS, no NX and not even a direct. Nintendo, are you insane?! Why would anyone do that? That’s the dumbest thing I have ever read, heard and seen. Now earlier some Pokemon details were revealed and Nintendo explicitly said they will talk or show more at the Treehouse E3 livestream. So it seems Nintendo kind of realizes what they are doing is moronic and will at least have something to offer other than Zelda. But come on. I just want Nintendo to show us cool stuff. Or you know….anything.
Our hopeful first look at Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Last year a remake for one of the best games ever got announced. Ever since Resident Evil 2 Remake got announced fans have been sitting on eggshells wondering if the game is actually going to be classic tank controls, fixed camera angles or modern third person shooter. I just hope we get to see the remake at the Sony presser and they start off with either the gun shop cut scene or the Will Smith-cop scene and then transition into the classic playstyle. It could go both ways. On one hand Final Fantasy 7 decided to adopt the new style while on the other hand sales and reception of the HD ports of REmake and Zero were good enough to show Capcom that the classic style is still super viable and good. Honestly, I don’t know if I will still have interest in the game. Needless to say, I am both anxious and excited for what’s to come.
And while some hopse are a bit more out there than others my dreams seem like something that will never happen. At least not in the current state gaming is in, I do hope something crazy might happen. After all, we did get Shenmue 3, Final Fantasy 7 remake and The Last Guardian all in one presser. So I say dream on, for one day they might just come true.
Capcom to save us from this Mighty No. mess.
So first Capcom let Megaman die. Then Inafune looked like some kind of savior to the world with Mighty No.9. THEN Inafune kept fumbling with his game like the guy who can’t hold all of the limes. Now would be the perfect time to announce a Megaman game and get those who grew skeptical of Inafune’s incompetence to not only surprise everyone but also rack in that huge amounts of scrilla. Seriously after the release of the Legacy Collection, people losing faith in Mighty No.9 this would be great. As you can probably read I don’t think Mighty No.9 will be good. The times I have played it and didn’t enjoy myself are enough for this game to sting even more. I need a good Megaman in my life, and at this point, Mighty No.9 might do more bad than good.
The return of Crash.
If there was any hinting going on this year it certainly is Crash related. Crash has been making all kinds of appearances all over the place. First Shawn Layden turned up with a Crash Bandicoot shirt at PSX kind of mirroring the FF7 events that went down the year before. Then there were rumors and voice actors saying things they shouldn’t have but by far the biggest hint was in a game. Uncharted 4 came out and in the game you can play Crash Bandicoot as some kind of endless runner. Now this means Naughty Dog got the rights from Activision to feature him in this way in their game. Now Activision has stated that they still own the rights but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t doing anything with it. Either way, I’m super curious what will happen this year.
Dead Space gets another chance
So Dead Space 2 is now of my favorite games. And after the mess that was Dead Space 3 because of marketing desicions, EA shot down the chance of a new Dead Space game. Viscerall was put on side content duty being forced to make the story mode for Battlefield Hardline. Now however they seem to have gotten another chance developing a Star Wars game with the former lead writer for the Uncharted series. So that’s already promising. But somewhere deep down I hope they’re making a new Dead Space. And if they aren’t, Just make that Star Wars game a Dead Space game set in that universe. It won’t be enough for me, but at least it’s something.
And that’s me. A bit more cynical than last year but still a dreamer nontheless. I can’t wait to just sit down and wacht one of the most fun events of the year start and finnish in front of me. I got butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it.
