Indie Corner: I and Me

Welcome to the review of the Nindie game called I and me, a cutesy puzzle game featuring cats!

As a special disclaimer, I love puzzle games and the harder they are, the more I tend to like them, I finished numerous games like all of the Boxboy games within days of getting my hands on them. So now I got my hands on a new, out of the box puzzle game, being all cute, having cute cats, little hedgehogs, pretty little enemies, …

I and Me

So let me tell you about the premise of the game, you start off as a pair of cats in this incredibly cute setting. The goal of the game is to move the cats to their goals in the shape of some sort of picture frames. Basically, you can call this a platformer with puzzle twists or a puzzle game with platforming twists! I know it sounds crazy, but this game is just crazy, both cats move exactly the same at the same time to the same direction as well as when you jump. This is where things get interesting. Imagine pulling a lever to make a platform move and using one of the cats to go grab the story book that you can collect!

Every level has its own difficulty, one being able to estimate the space between our cats, the other jumping over obstacles or using ledges to create a difference between your cats. This game is pretty smart in how it approaches everything and while it does look overly cute, this game has a real kick when it comes to figuring out how to play. I can not stress enough that the way this game looks and the way it plays are two direct opposites.

I love puzzle games and how they make me think, trying to figure out how to finish a level, this game did exactly that and so much more. For anyone reading, if you enjoy puzzle games, this is a must buy! The unique hand-drawn style is misleading and might lead you to believe this game will be easy, but it will not be easy, no no, it makes you work hard for that little sound you get when you finish the level.

This game was published by Ratalaika Games and made by Wish Fang, the game itself spreads out to a grand total of 92 levels, spread out through 4 different seasons. The cost of owning this game is merely 10 euro/dollar or 1000 yen and while it will not have you playing for hours and hours without stopping, it does bring a good value for the money spent.

In conclusion, while I do have my doubts in regards to its longevity, the inventiveness behind this game is why you should get it! On the other hand, the Switch has some very nice puzzle games already, so the decision on wether or not to grab this one as well, is entirely yours, I think you will enjoy it if you like games like Snipperclips or Snake Pass or even Puyo Puyo Tetris…
My rating is based both upon the fun I had and my concern about longevity so I am rating at an even 80%. This game is fun, but might be too short to really enjoy it in the long run.
