Today we review another indie game, this time the one called Bulb Boy, available soon on Nintendo Switch!
This was one of the weirder games I played this year, it’s a game consisting mostly of the color green. Bulb Boy is all about finding the solution to harder puzzles than what most games throw at you, without mostly any explanation, you are thrown into the story line.

One Night, our hero Bulb Boy wakes up to find everyone missing from his house, you are the hero of this story so you take up the heavy task of defeating the evil enemies that suddenly appear inside the house. Both a cute but gross approach to the entire story is the red line throughout the story. Enemies can be gigantic creatures without heads, but at the same time, this developer manages to make the story have cute parts too.

At one point, I was playing as the “dog”, I think, trying to get a worm for the fishing line so that Bulb Boy could catch a fish… Makes no sense, right? That is exactly what makes this game so great, you get curveballs thrown at you at a fast rate. Wether it is about using your head to jump around chandeliers or becoming a fish underwater that runs away from the worms in the water, this game, be it very short, is action packed from start to finish. At all times, the action is not fast paced, which could be considered its only downside, but I thought it did not prevent me from really enjoying this game.

Bulb Boy is all about being smart in your decisions, when you find a cookbook, it depicts the ingredients you will need for a recipe you will be making later on or how it shows you where the dog needs to pee, really, it has so much to describe, I feel like I am rambling down the list of everything I encountered. This game is both crazy and disturbing at the same time. It has gore elements and then suddenly you are calmly fishing on the water, …

And despite not being a new game, this game did see a PC release before, at the end of 2015, the Switch is a great fit. Upon playing, it is clear this game was originally designed to play with a computer mouse, but the developer Bulbware did an amazing job porting this one so flawlessly to Switch!

My one and only gripe about this game, the length of the game is only about 2 hours, which is on the short side.

In conclusion, despite being a short game, I am certain that it is a game worth picking up! It has so many freakishly weird aspects to it on top of being a rather great puzzle game. I can definitely see myself picking this one back up in the future for a second playthrough or even a third!
I am rating Bulb Boy 80%, the short part did prevent it from going all the way up to 90 or 90+!
