The Legend of Zelda for NES was one of the biggest and most complex games at that time. Nintendo of America thought the game would be too hard to beat for the American gamers and created a free phone number.
Did you know that it’s thanks to The Legend of Zelda that Nintendo created the Nintendo Hotline?
As I said in the information above, Nintendo of America was afraid the game would be too hard to beat. To help out the gamer it includes a free to call number in the manual. Although it was originally there for warranty problems, gamers could also call the number if they got stuck in the game.
Nintendo of America hired 4 people to man the phones and not long after the release of the game, they were swamped with calls about Zelda. But that was not all, gamers also called for aid in other games.
This resulted in the Nintendo Hotline later on. This Hotline was a paid phone service that would help you out if you got stuck in any game released on a Nintendo platform.
This service remained very popular for years but has been closed for a few years now. Thanks to the internet, the Hotline became useless
