Indie Corner: Crashbots

Welcome to our review of Crashbots, a game where you get the chance to become a running robot?

Take control of the latest line of robots and test their fighting capabilities, agility, and endurance in various arenas.

In WORLD mode you have to reach the finish line of each level before your battery runs out. World Mode takes you through 6 different worlds that each have their own unique contraptions and enemies that will try to destroy you. The final level of each world is a big boss fight.

In this ENDLESS mode, you have to run as far as you can before your energy runs out.
Crashbots features 5 different robots. Each robot has its own stats and a unique heavy attack. The robots can be upgraded to improve their durability and fighting power. You can unlock new robots by finding all of their parts that are hidden in the various worlds and game modes.

Crashbots is basically an obstacle course with robots and it is highly promising in idea. Run, Jump, Slide or fire, the basics you will learn to hate (or love, depending on your style). I hated them because I pushed the wrong button so very often that it bothered me. Yes, this is entirely up to me, but still…

A very logical consequence of pressing the wrong button was either running out of energy or getting hit. I often also had the impression certain commands like the firing took a while to respond. So I purposely tried this out and I still can not shake the idea that it is indeed slightly delayed. I even tried other Joy-Con and the results were sadly the same. Both in handheld and in TV mode.

It is a shame really, because Crashbots really is a very promising game. I loved the idea of doing obstacle courses like these. The game does appear to be very well balanced and quite ingenious, despite my prior annoyances, I am vouching for everyone to try this game! I hope the slight delays will eventually get patched out and you will have a really fun game in your hands when it happens.

I did get used to it and even after everything I previously mentioned, I did persistently keep playing and really enjoying this game. It is the perfect mix of a silly idea and proper execution after all.  It’s been a while that a game “like this” had gotten me invested to spend more time to play rather than spend it writing this review.

In conclusion, Crashbots caught me off guard and despite its flaws, it is a fun game to have and play! I sincerely hope they fix the small delays and I will gladly restart from scratch when they do!
