One of the first things I remember doing on the internet was playing games on so-called “gaming websites” where you could play all sorts of different mini games for free. Most of those were garbage but my favorite game was definitely a trial game. That was the reason I was so excited to try out Urban Trial 2 and relive some of my childhood memories and to check out if my skills are still on point.
Urban Trial 2 as you would expect, is a trial game where you ride an obstacle course on a motorcycle. The hard part of the game is balancing over the obstacles and do it as fast or as stylish as you can without failing too much. Just like every other trial game, but the biggest difference is the option to choose if you want to go for a time attack where speed is everything or whether you want to show your style in stunt mode.
Time attack is pretty straightforward, do the course as quick as you can, every time you fail you get a time penalty. When you finished the course you get a rating between one and five stars based on how fast you finished the track.
Stunt mode is something very cool that I haven’t seen in a trial game before. The course is the same as in time attack but now your score is based on how well you perform 2-3 stunts during the course. The stunts can vary from doing a high jump, performing a clean backflip, controlling your speed or make a precision jump. After you finish the stunts you again get a rating between one and five stars based on how well you performed the stunts.
A feature that I definitely liked was that you can check how well you did in comparison with other people based on an online ranking system. This is not super important but is definitely a cool feature. There are a lot of levels for you to complete but if you finished them all there is the option where you create your own courses or play the courses others made. Super Urban Trial Maker to call it that way.
The game does not look super good, it is kind of blurry sometimes but there was definitely put a lot of effort into details that make every level and every world look very different. That’s why it bothered me a little bit that it’s not that sharp. The camera movement is very dynamic and gives a new dimension to the levels which are very cool most of the time but in some cases, it obstructed my vision and that is not so cool if you try not to fall.
In general, I really like the game but the biggest downside are the physics. You can pull your bike like it’s nothing from every position and you can fall from very high without any consequences. Not that a trial game should be very realistic but it still bothered me. Besides that I definitely recommend this game, it is not the best game but you get what you pay for in Urban Trial 2. There is a lot content, it’s a very fun game and most important it’s a very cheap game.
