First day of Gamescom 2016 and we had the pleasure to witness a new trailer of Bethesda Softworks of their upcoming game Dishonored 2. Dishonored 2 gave us a new perspective on the game as we take on the role of Emily Caldwin along with her new set of abilities …

The first presentation was all about introducing ourselves with the new playable character Emily Caldwin, the former empress of Dunwald. She takes a visit to Kirin Jindosh’s estate that’s been guarded by his own clockwork bird-like shaped robotics, that can also be seen throughout Karnaca patrolling the streets. Her objective of this mission is to eliminate Kirin Jindosh since he’s standing between her and her recapture of her beloved empire Dunwald. She has this new set of skills that can help her infiltrating this maze of ever-changing rooms.

The former empress uses the dark arts as well to get what she want, when it comes to defeating enemies. During the presentation, we saw “Domino”, “Far Reach”, “Shadow Walk”, “Mesmerize” and “Doppelganger”. Domino links different enemies with each other that will share the same faith as the one killed by our assassin. It’s a quick way to get rid of larger group of enemies. Shadow Form takes on a Dark Shadow which makes her almost invisible for other enemies which is great for making stealthy kills. Far Reach is an ability that gives Emily a big advantage as she can reach high tops in her surroundings. Mesmerize will turn enemies into this dreamy state which can help you in your further confrontations.

The presentation of Dishonored 2 was the same as the first one. It has this dull fairytale kind of presentation style which can be appealing most of the time but I do have the feeling that the developers could have improved the presentation a bit more. It looks too much the same in comparison with the previous Dishonored. The game showed some of her well performed instant kills and her ability to slide under enemies and shoot them from below which can make up for some interesting battles but developers usually tend to perform these scripted battles which can put you on a wrong limb. We’ll have to wait and see. The best thing I can say about this game, is the fact that they’re staying true to the original Dishonored as they’re constantly giving you different ways to approach a certain objective or kill a certain enemy. You really have a lot to say when it comes to your playstyle. In Dishonored there’s always a personal choice, whether it’s killing everyone in your way or not harming a single soul. It’s up to you. Do you wanna fight up close or get them from a distance? The choice is yours.

So is the gameplay mechanics the same? Such as: if you make one tiny mistake they see you and the whole mission is messed up? Also, the combat in the first one was horrible if you didn’t get a stealth kill. For a game that had pistols the combat DID NOT encourage non stealth kills.
