Review: Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn

Welcome to our review of the Tales of Arise DLC, this is “Beyond the Dawn” expansion and it is a perfect expansion on an already amazing game.

After the battle for the fate of two worlds, Alphen and his party meet a young girl named Nazamil, who is the daughter of a Renan Lord and a Dahnan. Will the six be able to change the fate of the girl who will eventually fall under the curse of the mask? Explore the world again with party members who are bounded together by a strong bond.

TALES OF ARISE – BEYOND THE DAWN begins one year after the conclusion of the original TALES OF ARISE. Alphen and the rest of The Six are caught between being revered as the Liberating Heroes of Dahna and reviled as the Destroyers of Rights by Renans. By chance, they encounter the enigmatic Nazamil, a powerful young girl who is the daughter of a Renan lord and a Dahnan slave.

In the history of this game world, very rarely have children from a mixed couple lived, let alone grow old like Nazamil. She is special in every way under the sun and she is being hunted because of it. When she eventually runs into our heroes, the Six offer to protect Nazamil, but more will unfold as players progress and bond with their companions having to face a divided world after the fusion of Rena and Dahna. In this expansion, players will experience exciting new challenges and see a world that is at once familiar yet evolved.

One of the most intriguing things is how there are now mausoleums spread throughout the world and they serve as your new dungeons, each with their own challenges and fights. Most of them are rather challenging and despite having a rather leveled up set of characters, you do get to be challenged. Talking about the fighting aspect, pretty much nothing changed from the game to the DLC.

This obviously means that the game is very easy to score, if you loved the main game, you will just adore this one. No surprises there, right? Well, actually I would say I expected a few more differences but aside from more attacks, the story follows the same sweet spot in telling its story, from meeting Nazamil to Alphen exploding his anger on those that sought out his protection, …

There is so much I can say about Nazamil and how she is easily one of the more unusual characters in any RPG I recently played. Her design is gorgeous and is very reminiscent of the better character design in the NIER game series. I just love how incredibly skilled these designers have become over the past few years. From drawing to completely animated on screen, it makes me wonder how far design can go in the future.

In conclusion, Beyond the Dawn might be just an expansion pack, but it feels and plays like a second instalment of the Tales of Arise game. I love it.
