Hands-on: The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem

The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem is a brand-new game based on the world’s most iconic spooky family. I was able to play a small portion of the game and wanted to share my first impression.

Mansion Mayhem?

In this hilarious 3D platform adventure, play as Wednesday, Pugsley, Gomez, and Morticia in 4-player co-op for an exciting family game fright! Help the Addams Family save their mansion from a mysterious visitor who is dead-set on taking over. Explore the mansion’s darkest depths, magical mysteries and discover secrets while utilizing each character’s special abilities, including Gomez’s Mazurka Saber and Wednesday’s pet octopus Socrates. Solve puzzles together and find relics that reveal the mansion’s hair-raising history

Since my demo was on a Wednesday, I played as her and wasn’t disappointed. As the short brief already gave away, Mansion Mayhem is a 3D platform adventure where you can play together with your friends and family. During the demo, I played it on my own but wasn’t disappointed. Playing as Wednesday I was thrown into a level that really fitted the Addams Family atmosphere. Meaning the world you’re running around in is pretty weird when it comes to its design. I was running around over huge plates filled with several types of fruit. It’s not all just aesthetical as some fruits enabled me to reach higher grounds. It’s fun to see how the team managed to integrate so many fun details that will definitely ring a bell for those who watched the shows. Besides platforming, I was also tasked to take down a couple of enemies and solve some environmental puzzles. It was never super original or mind-blowing but the demo did offer fun. In my opinion, this could be a fun introduction to the genre for the younger gamers.

More than just platforming

Besides the rather regular platforming segments, this game also houses tons of fun mini-games where you’ll have to compete with others. The mini-games reminded me of horrifying versions of the games found in games like Mario Party and offered a welcomed change to the rather standard formula. In most of those mini-games, speed and accuracy are crucial to ending up as the winner of the game. The mini-games all offered a smaller playing field compared to the regular levels which made it even more thrilling to play, I’m guessing this will be a lot of fun during family game nights.

Early conclusion:

The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem is a fun yet traditional action-adventure game set in the fun world of the Addams Family. Although the game isn’t that innovative, the addition of the mini-games will turn this into a fun adventure for the entire family. It’s one to keep an eye out for when it releases later this month.
