Review: The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon

Welcome to our review of The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon, the first expansion for the Outer Worlds!

The Outer Worlds: Peril on Gorgon is the first narrative expansion to the award-winning RPG from Obsidian Entertainment and Private Division.

A severed arm and a mysterious message lead the crew of the Unreliable to the Gorgon Asteroid, formerly the site of one of Halcyon’s most ambitious and disastrous scientific undertakings, now a lawless den of monsters and marauders. Wealthy recluse Minnie Ambrose tasks the crew with finding answers about Dr. Olivia Ambrose, her mother, and the doomed project’s disgraced director, but they are soon ensnared in an intrigue that will change the colony forever.

When I first started playing this expansion, I honestly wondered if this game was something for me. Having not played the original game and on top of it doubting whether or not it would be something for me based upon some reviews and clips online, I was having my fair share of doubts and well, they got blown away by the sheer depth of this title. Allow me to explain this in-depth by recounting my adventures as the Captain of the Unreliable.

Part of being a reviewer is that we get specific save games allowing us to fully bypass playing full games so we can instantly start at certain points in the game, which was in this case the Peril on Gorgon expansion. A full-fledged story that I will not spoil as it is not my habit to spoil stories as those should be experienced in person, not by reading someone like me telling you all about it,

What caught me off guard is really how much fun this hybrid game really is. Sure, in its core, this is a first-person shooter that married a role-playing game but I thought it was very well presented and despite earlier doubts, I mean I never played the original game because of those doubts, which should speak for itself.

The game is a lot of fun though and I just loved being able to influence pretty much everything I did. At one point I finished a mission to retrieve an item which could go to either the good guys or the bad, but I ended up destroying both parties and my computer in the Unreliable just told me she looked forward to see what I did. That was so funny and I just loved bits and pieces like this.

Luckily I had a friend join me who had played the full game before and she was able to tell me a lot more about the game and its’ origin. She was also able to tell me the expansion did do a nice job of keeping the atmosphere of the game! Glad she was able to help me out!

In conclusion, The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon is a fun expansion, yet it is just oriented towards fans of this fun game! Having never played the full game, I did fall in love with the game enough to give the game a real try!
