Review: Kairobotica – Kairosoft

Welcome to another Kairosoft review. We picked up Kairobotica on sale, and you are probably wondering, is Nick going for the full Kairosoft collection? Yes, I think I am. So join me on this spacefaring conquest in which Kairobots enhance the life of nearby planets. Because… Kairobots bring forth the evolution?

Kairobotica!

Vanquish villains and lead the Kairobot Corps to glory in this spacefaring saga! In a galaxy not so far away, miscreants and monsters are wreaking havoc, and it’s up to everyone’s favorite mechanical mascot to dole out a heaping helping of bot-kicking justice! And he’s bringing an army of his Kairobotic brethren to do it. In this new spacefaring sim, you command the Kairobot Corps, a state-of-the-art brigade of mass-produced guardians of galactic peace. Heed calls for help to patrol planets and vanquish villains to build your reputation as the most elite interstellar security force on this side of the Andromeda! Between missions, upgrade your mobile colony from shields to shops, and you may attract inquisitive spacetrotters from unexplored planets. You can even exhibit animals captured on patrol. Can you catch them all?

Kairo..soft again?

Yes, it’s another simulator but mixed with action elements that reminded me of the random battles in Final Fantasy. I had loads of fun with this entry since it combines all the right aspects of the previous Kairosoft games (in-depth management) and adds the part I like about A-RPGs en adventure games. I gained control over my kairobots for the first time and went on patrol missions with them. The basis of this game revolves around running a simulated space farm facility in which you ‘cultivate’ kairobots and evolve the culture of the planet you are visiting. You start with earth, a single factory, and a farm.

Luckily you gain a lot of cash and information points to upgrade and develop your space farm. With these points, you can create new kairobots with unique traits, like stealing items or performing special attacks. These make the patrols easier (since enemies get harder) and help develop the planet you are visiting. While growing your space farm, you’ll gain access to all kinds of tech, which results in opening even more farms, a petting zoo, and a shopping mall with trinkets. Adding these to your farm helps to develop the cultural evolution of the planet, hence leveling up the civilization you’re growing.

Conclusion:

Since it’s a little less ‘hurry-up-and-master,’ Kairobotica was much more enjoyable. I did not have to reset, just rethink my steps before taking another action in the game. By traveling between planets and hoarding items, I completed my mission, grew in reputation, and unlocked some new worlds. On these planets, I met all kinds of creatures, ranging from monkey-like beings to squids and enemies made out of food…? The goal stayed the same, but each planet brought along a new challenge for me to complete. Kairobotica will be one of my favorites since it was a fresh breeze of Kairosoft software. They stepped outside the usual box and created a beautiful simulator game. So, if you are up for some space farming, combined with Final Fantasyesque tactics, Kairobotica is right up your alley.
