Welcome to our preview of Luigi’s Mansion 3, the Ghostbusting, show-stopping game featuring our beloved scaredy-cat Luigi!
Luigi embarks on a dream vacation with Mario and friends upon receiving an invitation to a luxurious hotel. However, his dream quickly becomes a nightmare when King Boo reveals everything had been a ploy to capture Mario and friends. With the assistance of Professor E. Gadd once again, the reluctant and cowardly hero Luigi traverses up and down treacherous floors of the now-ominous hotel on a quest to save them.
Wield the upgraded Poltergust G-00 to slam and blow away the ghosts’ defenses, or summon Gooigi, an all-green doppelgänger that can help Luigi overcome obstacles he can’t get past alone. Interchange between Luigi and Gooigi as one player, or grab a friend and control one each. For more frenetic multiplayer action, race the timer to clear various objectives on a series of floors in ScareScraper mode. ScareScraper mode can be played online or locally with up to eight players on four Nintendo Switch systems (additional games required to play!).
Luigi’s mansion is one of my favorite franchises. Not joking, I adore the scared cat Luigi in his best role and game series. I own the Japanese figures and everything. The original game on GameCube is possibly my favorite game on the console and with that library being so impressive, it should be clear where I stand. I also wrote this opinion piece after E3.
And now, I got to play it some more…
We all know the idea behind the Luigi’s Mansion games, you need to go bust some Boos and save the world at the same time. Equipped with more weapons than ever, we start the game by entering the hotel. Luigi has just won a vacation and after the divulging of the storyline, which I will keep for my full review, we start by exploring the hotel. It becomes clear that the polterpup, who is now your official pet in Luigi lore, is more or less your guide.
You follow him around and more and more, it becomes clear that some of the smaller downsides of the original game have been perfectly solved. I did sometimes feel that you are left on your own in the original games, but Luigi’s Mansion 3 does do the trick to really improve on this. Elvin Gadd, who is still around, also helps you out a lot more directly. No longer will you wander around aimlessly trying to figure out what to do, no sir. Luigi’s Mansion 3 is a lot more organised too. I am so far loving every bit of the story and as a gamer familiar with the series, I have only really been stuck once, haha.
I just love how this game took the franchise to the next level. Everything seems to be improved upon. Like when you are in the elevator, you are moving up and down floors and even the little light in between the elevator doors is reacting to the different floors. Luigi’s Mansion 3 has become such a gorgeous game, I can not wait to really “tell all” in my full review, which will be published near the release of the game. Talking about the Scarescraper and story will be amazing!
I will say one thing before signing off, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is so good, I am waking up early and staying up late just to be able to play. The game is currently doing its thing in living up to my personal hype and I can not stress enough how fun this game has been so far. Gooigi adding depth to the puzzles, Boos popping up everywhere and tons of new ways to approach puzzles. Luigi’s Mansion 3 so far has been a dream come true!
