Indie Corner: Super Hero Fight Club: Reloaded

Welcome to our review of Super Hero Fight Club. A pixel-action-brawler out now, for Nintendo Switch!

The main premise of the game is to play a game of deadly tag. You will get into legendary superhero battles in which you score points once you’ll hit the other player. Maybe it’s more like highspeed fencing. But with parodies of your favorite pop culture heroes, villains, and some superheroes.

These are not the droids you are looking for, neither the action heroes.

The game features seventeen different fighters, all referenced to the earlier mentioned real life/comical counterparts. They are then again broken down into three types:

  • Melee – attacks are carried out with a sword or saber
  • Long range melee – attacks are carried out with a steel ball or computer mouse
  • Ranged – attacks are carried out with a bow or gun

For example, you can play with a hero named Madam, which is a clear reference to He-Man. He.. she.. comes with a sword-like weapon and with the power to do the Heya-Dance of course. But there is also the Green Hawk, a ranged hero based on the popular DC figure the Green Arrow (from Archer). For our Long range melee class we have Anonymous, with the V for Vendetta mask and all. Using a computer mouse to destroy his enemies, he’ll have to gain momentum to attack his foes.

Gamemodes:

Once you picked your favorite fighter, it’s time to jump into one of the modes of Super Hero Fight Club. You can pick between Arcade Ladder, Missions or Survival. Arcade Ladder takes you on a stroll down Fight Lane, in which you battle your way to the top. Once you best to the best fighter, you can unlock him and shoot fire from your paws. If you prefer a more challenging approach, try your hands at the missions of Super Hero Fight Club. You get a mixture of survival, deathmatch and regular ‘score points’ missions, which get harder once you cleared the first few stages. The game features a total of 45 missions, which can be completed in a good few hours.

Survival is the last of the three modes and does exactly what it says. Just keep fighting until you die. Score as many points as you can and try to beat your own high score! If you want to play with friends, Super Hero Fight Club offers a multiplayer mode. It supports up to four players and works like every other multiplayer fighting game. High paced fun, set in a world of pixellated knock-off characters from China (but in a good way).

So if you are looking for a fun, quick-to-play, fighting game with pixellated graphics (instead of Smash Ultimate). Go grab a copy of Super Hero Fight Club, fun for a few hours, but probably not at its current price point.
