Welcome to our review of Solar Flux, a futuristic puzzle game out now on Nintendo Switch!
Explore the farthest reaches of space and solve celestial puzzles in Solar Flux!
Galaxies are in turmoil as their suns are dying. The Solar Galaxy Federation has deployed vast Flux Accumulator ships to collect plasma and restore the suns’ equilibrium in each nebula.
Solar Flux is a unique space puzzle game where you journey across the universe using both puzzle solving and dexterity skills to bring order to the cosmos. Supernovas, Asteroid Fields, Meteors and Black Holes are just some of the challenges you will encounter as you sail your ship through the solar flares of each imploding sun.
Solar Flux is quite the experience, set in outer space to collect all the plasma and shoot it into the suns in order to restore them. Every single detail is important in this game and it just clicked straight from the start.
Solar Flux uses the level to the fullest as well as the surroundings. So it all comes down to grabbing the plasma balls and using the atmosphere to the fullest in order to pass on to the next level and well, I loved it. I was able to use the solar bursts to move in other directions and even ride the waves. Hopping from one to the other and avoiding the debris in outer space at the same time.
So basically every object in the levels have their own game mechanic. From twisting the direction to getting pulled into the circular movement around the object, you use these mechanics to your advantage. Solar bursts can set you free from the gravitational pulls from certain objects but only in the right direction.
If all else fails, you can still use your trusty thruster engine.
Solar Flux is a fun and ingenious puzzle game that really doubles down on its mechanics and how to purposely avoid obstacles or your engines. In the end, all comes down to finding the golden solution in solving the puzzles and getting those bragging rights for scoring three stars!
I actually really enjoyed this game and can only say it is well worth your time if you like the smarter puzzles. Graphically, this game is employing an “in outer space” approach and is basically all planets, space debris, and solar elements. It looks very nice and provides quite the challenge in order to see the real solution.
In conclusion, Solar Flux may not be for everyone, but I am very positive about it. I did fail quite often to grab the three stars, but it just added to the fun of my experience. I loved my first triple wave riding as I surfed in between all the debris and it was at that time that I had my most fun.
Later levels became more and more intense and despite still loving my experience, it sometimes felt a little too hard.
