Like always Overwatch isn’t sitting still. If story elements aren’t developing then surely the game will be changing and it did.
Summer games
Finally the Overwatch Summer games started. There was new stuff but also older stuff. In my opinion this is the way Blizzard should go. The skins of the past should be available again at some point. Maybe Blizzard is going to do the same with other events? I would love to have that Dr. Junkenstein skin! A nice addition is the reintroduction of Lucióball.
PTR update
There are lots of things happening. The next update is going to be BIG.
Junkrat
First off Junkrat gets an overhaul. First off he gets 2 mines. This was needed because mostly you use your only mine to bomb yourself across the map. This problem should be gone now.
But then things got real. Mercy and D.Va both are getting an overhaul. First off D.Va is going to get missiles and Mercy is no longer the resurrect hero she used to be. She can still resurrect but it will be limited to 1 hero and it has a 30-seconds cooldown. It is her new ability from now on.
D.Va
The rockets are a bit weird to use. First it is like they are loading and then D.Va shoots them. Though it seems that it has a high damage output and in my opinion as a D.Va main it is a good thing. D.Va is now more a mid-short range hero which is good. It makes her more versatile.
Before this I was a big fan of baby D.Va. But now her Meka can really pack a punch.
Mercy
Mercy has become more than “left click”. Don’t get me wrong I do think there are tactics involved with Mercy. A good rez is a game changer. But now she can do more. Her rez has become an ability where you can only rez 1 character. Her ult now is special. It makes her fly, she is much faster and her healing is stronger. Her gun gets stronger too.
I think this can make the way we play a whole lot different. It puts Mercy back in the game and she isn’t as liable as she used to. Before this she was a fragile hero whom needed constant protection. Now with her new abilities she is much more self-sustaining.

Deathmatch
Deathmatch is available in PTR and along with it, the amazingly beautiful map Château Guillard. This map will also feature lore about Widowmaker since her maiden name is Guillard.
I really love to play it. It is really fun but I think it goes against the great idea of Overwatch. Overwatch is designed to be played with a team. But hey what about a team deathmatch? On the other hand I think Overwatch wants to open up even more to the Call Of Duty players. Even though I think the addition of a deathmatch playmode is the normal way to go for every self-respecting FPS.
Animated shorts
With gamescom around the corner we knew we could expect stuff from Blizzard. And we were right. They released 2 new animated shorts. Let’s go through them.
Junkertown: The Plan
I have literally been screaming for Junkrat content and more info about the Junkers. I just love his character a lot and it was a pity we knew so little about him. This changes now with the new animated short. Though it is more an announcement than a short.
Anyways Junkrat and Roadhog apparently have bad blood with the Junkers. We have learned now that Junkertown is being governed by a so called Queen and Junkrat and Roadhog want to double cross her with explosives and disguises (the explosives being the payload). This fails horribly as Junkrat reveals who they are too early.
Anyways the Junkertown map has been revealed and it will be an escort map. There are some platformer elements in it. Something we haven’t seen in Overwatch yet. I wonder how it will play out.
Rise and shine
Another short starts off with our favorite little spawn from the depths of hell itself, Mei. She talks about how the she and the other scientists have to hibernate because they are short on rations.
I actually haven’t thought of this. But by many Mei is considered a chubby character. In this short we see that this isn’t the case. It is her attire, fit for climatological research in the arctics that makes her look that way. I say this because with the Chinese New Year event there was controversy because instead of making Mei the THICC character that everyone thought she was, they slendered her waist. Which now turns out to be normal.
9 years later when Winston is regrouping Overwatch, Mei wakes up. Not realizing what has happened. It is not clear how long she was supposed to hibernate but it wasn’t supposed to be 9 years.
We also learn that her little robot companion is called snowball. But we probably have already learned this with sprays in the game itself.
After this nothing special happens only emotion stuff *hold me pls :(*. Except that we learn that Mei is on a quest to get her data out. She wants to reach Winston even though comms are down. This works in the end and she sets off to find Overwatch and answer Winston’s call to regroup.
We also learn how Mei has managed to make her weapon.
Anyways that is the news for this week. It was an amazing past few weeks and I really loved all the content we got now!
I think I am going to overhaul my tactics chart. But I still need contributors to help. So feel free to message me at 2StijnS2@gmail.com
