We’ve had some couple of great fighting games like Tekken 7, Injustice 2, Mortal Kombat, …etc. but Bandai Namco didn’t stop there! At Gamescom, Bandai Namco announced a mobile Tekken for the IOS and Android systems. Let’s check it out!
Bandai Namco gave us a quick presentation of the game and afterward, we had the chance to play the game for ourselves. The first thing I’ve noticed was how good the game looked and how smooth it ran on an Iphone 7 device. The game did, however, turn up the heat on the machine but this can be normal for our session since we played a beta build of the game, so these experience may not be the same when you’ll play the final build. They’ll probably fix this and optimize the game, so it can sync up with the resources of the device. Will just have to wait and see.
The basics of the game are very simple and aren’t as mind breaking as some fighting games. The fighting controls are very easy, you just tap to attack the opponent with basic punches and kicks. To block, just hold down the tap button and your character will defend itself from basic attacks. Swiping left or right will move your character in that specific direction. Each character has a set of 9 cards which can be customized personally. These cards have different goals: hard attack, block breaking attack, restarting combo, punch/ kick the enemy in the air, … etc. These Waza cards (special moves) can be unlocked during events or just by playing the game. These cards are shown on the screen in any order and some moves take longer to “get ready” than others. Only two cards are shown, if one of those cards has been activated it disappears until the next round. This makes the game a bit simplified but you do have to be careful and plan your attacks. The last but maybe one of the most important features is the “rage”- button. This rage button is linked with a special attack. If your health’s low, it will appear on the bottom of your screen. Tap this button and it will unleash a devastating attack.
The game also offers a couple of modes to play the game. At first, you have of course your story mode. This story mode is all about completing chapters within acts. Once a chapter has been completed, you’ll be able to progress further into the story. At the end of each chapter, there’s a boss that can be unlocked during your gameplay sessions. To complete this story, you’ll have to form up a team of 3 characters.
The game also has a DOJO feature which means that players can compete against other players who aren’t even online. This dojo character is a ghost of a person that plays Tekken mobile. With each game you play, parameters are being collected to form this ghost into an almost exact replica of you as a fighter. This virtual ghost will behave in a way you’re familiar. The more you play Tekken, the better replica it will become. There are also calendar related live events that’ll give you a chance of unlocking even more powerful and rare playable characters. With each fight, your character will earn experience to become even more powerful. Level up and gain access to new cards!
As a last feature, they have of course local head-to-head pairing game mode which lets you play against gamers in your surroundings due to the pairing system. They created this mode to introduce a more competitive aspect to the mobile gaming world. Due to this feature, local e-sport events of this game can be organized. The game is only playable in Japan at the moment but people can register themselves at the following website.
The developers really want to get a lot of testers to make this game near-to-perfect, so in order for them to achieve such an amount of players, they’ve presented a goal list to attract a lot of gamers. You can check this out at the website which exclusive rewards you’ll get at global launch. The more people who’ll register, the more rewards you’ll earn. Go enlist now for a brand new character within the Tekken franchise. They’ve created a character specifically for this launch. If they can’t reach this goal, they won’t release the character!
