Welcome to our review of Implosion, a new game on the Nintendo Switch eShop that has its origins on mobile!
20 years after the fall of Earth, the remaining survivors of the human race once again face the threat of extinction from an unknown life form known as XADA. The humans developed a countermeasure technology, creating a series of battle suits through a program dubbed the War-Mech III. Ride the “Avalon”, one of the deadliest battle suits made, and defend your people!

Implosion is a Sci-Fi Hack and Slash game where the hero fights against enemies known as XADA using WM-III (WarMech-3) battle suits. Originally a smartphone game praised for its’ amazing graphics, but how did it fare during our test on the Switch?

First, let me praise exactly those high-quality graphics, be they cut scenes, the nice voice acting and the overall feeling you get from playing this game, it is simply stunning! Everything is beautiful about this game, but how does that mix with the actual gameplay?

Well, the game is your everyday hack’n slash, so basically, half of the time, you are button smashing, the other half, you are figuring out how your enemies attack so you can break the pattern and attack them yourself.

So does it hold up itself? Well yes, being able to play a game of this caliber on a handheld, I always thought it would not happen or that we would get a skinned down version because well, 3DS and Vita used to be the only real option prior to the Switch. Despite the origins on mobile, the action itself is decent enough to warrant buying it, one small remark, the game does come in at a hefty 3 Gigabytes…

The levels itself are quite short which allows for short game sessions, the initial levels I played never took more than a few minutes, only the boss fights really take up more time. The boss fights are actually quite amazing, the artwork on them is an added bonus! Thankfully you have a few revives to keep playing while trying not to get slaughtered by some of those bosses…

The one thing I am doubtful about, is whether or not this game has a high replayability once you are done, I think the majority of time, you follow the guide through the storyline and well, I feel like you will skip the story, head straight into the action and you might become tired of it… Despite having a ton of stuff to unlock like power-ups, …

In conclusion, this game may be right for the Switch, but fans of the genre might somewhat feel displeased about the lack of depth. The big titles in the genre, like Bayonetta or Darksiders will provide a complete experience, despite the stunning visuals this game brings to the table.
My rating, however, is a high 80%, due to the fact that this game is so cheap at 12 euros, it is a steal. You will get great bang for the buck, not AAA quality level, but still, more than good enough to warrant buying it!
