Special: E3 2017 Predictions #1

E3 2017 is right around the corner. In just a couple of weeks, the biggest gaming event will kick off and we’re ready for it! As usual, we share our predictions in several articles before the official start of the convention.

First up is our very own Sam, giving his top 5 reveals and top 3 E3 dreams he’s hoping that will turn out true.

5) First gameplay footage of the new Assassin’s Creed

Ubisoft hasn’t released an AC game in 2016 since they wanted to take more time for developing their newest entry of the series. According to some leaks, the next AC title will take place in ancient Egypt and be an origin story for the entire Assassin’s Creed organization. Since Ubisoft themselves said that they would skip 2016 for releasing a new AC game, it will be highly likely that they will release the next title in late 2017, thus we can probably expect a lot of new info on E3.

4) Smash for Nintendo Switch

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and WiiU is one of Nintendo’s best-selling titles and proved that playing Smash on the go is possible. Porting the game to the Nintendo Switch will probably happen in the future since Nintendo already released a port of Mario Kart 8 that includes all its DLC. I don’t think that Smash will get ported this year, but I do think that Nintendo will confirm the port in their E3 Direct.

3) More info about Insomniac’s Spiderman game

Insomniac and Sony surprised us at E3 2016 by showing a trailer for a new Spiderman game. Since then, we haven’t received any more news about the project. The release date is still set in 2017, but it will probably get delayed. However, I believe it is safe to say that Sony will show off new in-game footage and give us a lot more information about the upcoming game. After all, the Spiderman: Homecoming movie will be in theaters a month after E3, so Sony will probably want to take advantage of the media buzz.

2)  First Death Stranding gameplay

Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima’s PS4 exclusive title, has already garnered a lot of interest since its first trailer. We have yet to see any gameplay and while the game is still in early development, I think it’s possible that Kojima will give us a glimpse of what the game has to offer. It’s also possible that Kojima will be his notorious self and release another trailer that looks incredible but tells us basically nothing.

1) Microsoft going all-out with Project Scorpio

Microsoft has been working on Project Scorpio, an upgraded Xbox One, for some time now. Their Xbox One release was a disaster, which cost them a lot of fans and potential newcomers to the platform. Add to that their questionable decisions about their exclusive games, like Scalebound or Fable Legends, and you’ve got yourself one big mess of a platform that needs a miracle to turn things around. Well, that miracle might be Project Scorpio. I expect Microsoft to focus 80% of their presentation on the new console. But upgraded hardware alone won’t save the Xbox brand. Some exclusive titles are also needed to attract people, so hopefully, we’ll also get a few surprise announcements.

3) A new, genuine, Ratchet and Clank title

Yes, yes, Insomniac Games has recently released their reboot of the original Ratchet and Clank and they’re also busy making the Spiderman game. Them announcing a new R&C title probably won’t happen soon, but that’s why I’m writing this in the dreams segment. I just want them to pick up where the R&C: Future series left and discover more about Ratchet’s species, the Lombaxes. He still hasn’t found them and it’s been years since an R&C game has touched on that subject. If Insomniac wants to leave that part of the story open-ended, fine, but as a fan of the series, I want closure.

2) Rocksteady announces their newest project

Rocksteady, the studio behind the award-winning Batman: Arkham games, has confirmed in a Reddit AMA that they’re working on a new project. While they also confirmed that they’re done with Batman, it is safe to say that their next game will take place in a Warner Bros. owned property, since the studio is owned by said company. I personally would love to see them making a Justice League game, but making a game out of that will probably be a huge challenge, so who knows what they’re doing.

1) Literally anything about Cyberpunk 2077

Making games takes time, especially if they’re as big as CD Projekt Red’s most recent title, The Witcher 3. But the last time we heard anything about their newest project, Cyberpunk 2077, was when they first announced it BACK IN 2013! Since then it’s been nothing but radio silence. Anything new they can tell us would be welcome to hear. Hell, even telling us that they’re still working on it would be nice.
