Gamescom 2016: Killing Floor 2. [Hands-on]

Killing Floor recently started off as a mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. Since its release it has been able to enjoy relative success and a dedicated cult following. Now Killing Floor 2 is out on PC and is doing even better than the first game. And with the sequel coming to Playstion 4 it will keep growing and growing.

Killing floor is a first-person shooter in which players have to survive waves of enemies coming at them. When you hear that description you will immediately think of a horde mode. And while it is basically that, it’s done in such an excellent way that it’s going to entertain you and your friends for months if not even years. It’s one of those game you and a bunch of your friends will pick up and have a blast with.

You start off the game picking a character each with their own unique attributes. When the game starts, you need to go to a dispenser and buy ammo and guns. The amount of guns in the game are enough to make you head spin. Crossbows, shotguns, pistols, assault rifles you name it they got it. And all the guns feel unique too so there is a lot of variety.

After picking your guns you will be swarmed by drones of enemies. Things can get pretty intense and you need to work together to survive. It reminds me of a slower-paced Left 4 Dead which is not a bad comparison. The enemy variety is also pretty solid. The designs also are a huge step up from the original game. The designs are really unique and every special enemy stands out to the hordes of regular enemies. After killing an enemy you will receive money which you can buy stronger guns. At the end of all the waves, you will fight a random boss, each with its own unique weaknesses and moves. I really enjoyed my time with the Playstation 4 version of killing Floor 2. It’s one of those games that despite only having one mode is extremely fun and offers a ton of replay value. If you have some friends and are looking for the next game to sink you time in, this will be it.
