Zelda: Fun fact day 22

The Legend of Zelda games only release on Nintendo platforms nowadays.

Nintendo once gave Philips permission to create three Zelda games for their CD-i system. But they turned out to be disastrous.

Back in the days Philips wished to work together with Nintendo by creating a CD add-on for the Super Nintendo system but Nintendo refuged the deal. To soften the wounds, Philips received permission to use The Legend of Zelda characters in three games for the CD-i.

Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon and Zelda’s Adventure were the result of the deal with Philips.

The games however were created very fast and nobody really cared about the quality, Nintendo didn’t had anything to say during the development. All three games turned out to be an absolute disaster.

Since that day, Nintendo won’t permit any of its franchises to be released on a platform other than their own.

The games were so bad that Nintendo will hardly admit their existent when asked.
