Zelda: Fun fact day 16

Did you ever noticed there aren’t any pre-rendered Cutscenes in The Legend of Zelda games? And even if they appear in a game, they’ll be very rare.

The reason for this absence is because Miyamoto likes to change things once in a while.

When Miyamoto is working on The Legend of Zelda or another game, he has the habit to drastically changes things when the result isn’t what he expected. That’s the reason why his team can’t work with pre-rendered cutscenens.

This is what Miyamoto has to say:

“Pre-rendered movies and the way I make games just don’t mix,” he said. “If I wanted to fix something, they might tell me, ‘We’ll need at least a month to fix that.’ In the worst case, they might say, ‘The movie’s done, so it can’t be changed.’ I’d be like, ‘Huh? This would make it more fun, so why can’t we fix it?’ And they’d say, ‘Because you can’t change the movies.’ I’d think, ‘But what’s more important to fans, the movies or how fun it is?’ That’s why I adopted a method of processing the movies in real time.”
