The database with all the information about the users of massively multiplayer online game Rift has been hacked. This was announced by Trion Worlds on their website.
The database contains information like usernames, encrypted passwords, birthdates, e-mailaddresses, home addresses, the four first and last digits of creditcards and the end date of this. The developer has explicitely said that they have no reason to believe that there were any creditcard records stolen.
Experts are working on a way to find out what the intruders have been able to see. They are also working on ways to make the database security better. All users have to change their password at the next login. The company doesn’t expect any problems with the game itself and as an excuse, they have given every gamer a Moneybags’ Purse, that increases found money by 10 percent.
