Review: Destroy All Humans 2 – Reprobed –

Destroy All Humans 2 – Reprobed – brings back the crazy action and humor of the original release. Although it might feel dated for some, this game is all about having fun, and believe me, you’ll have a blast playing this. Let’s jump in!

A blast from the past

Before you can start playing this remake, a warning message pops up on the screen explaining this game was created during a different era and might contain certain humoristic references that don’t fit the norms of today. In other words, the team didn’t censor this version at all and left in all stereotypes, big-breasted women, and spicy jokes. If this is not your style, you’ll probably be annoyed with the game right from the start. I didn’t really have a problem with the humor or stereotypes as this clearly is a work of fiction. You are controlling an alien who’s trying to destroy the humans after all… Sure, the humor isn’t as in touch with its crowd as it was years ago but that doesn’t mean you won’t have a laugh. The most important thing you need to remember is that this game doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s all about having fun and believe me, right from the start, you’ll have a lot of fun with it.

The sequel takes place 10 years after the events of Destroy All Humans! The KGB finds out that the president of the United States is in fact Cryptosporidium-138, a clone of the original Cryptosporidium-137. In order to stop the alien from controlling the entire planet, the Russians blow up the alien mothership with some well-aimed nukes. Orthopox 13, Crypto’s lieutenant quickly managed to transport his soul to a hologram so he can still assist Crypto with his mission on Earth. Although he’s crashlanded on a hostile planet, Crypto is way stronger than his predecessor and has access to better gear. What’s even better? He’s the first Furon with a reproducing organ called ‘The Package’. Are you ready to save the Earth and destroy all humans with some alien tech? Time for some missions!

Classic missions

Gameplay-wise this game plays like a game from the older generation but that’s nothing really bad. The world is free to explore but depending on the missions you’re in, you’ll be stuck with a smaller playground to keep you entertained. The size of the world is of course a lot smaller compared to modern games but in my opinion, this was a benefit. I often don’t find the time to sink in tons of hours in a huge open world, the snack size of this open world is perfect and even after skipping a couple of gaming days, I could easily get back into the destruction. It follows the simpler rules of open-world gaming but I actually really liked that for a change. It’s a bit of a shame that the missions themselves often require you to do the same thing over and over again.

There’s a fun story connecting the missions but most of the time, you’re escorting an NPC, killing a number of enemies, or taking over certain characters to get things done. Fun at first but a bit too repetitive if you’re playing the for a lot of hours, you might get bored due to the lack of variation. To keep things as entertaining as possible, I do recommend playing this in shorter sessions. I played this one in between some other bigger games and always had a smile on my face returning to Crypto’s crazy world. The missions lack variation but the crazy weapons of Crypto do make up for a lot. The game features some of the craziest weapons ever created and all are a blast experimenting with. For the completionists, there are also tons of skins to unlock, which gives you another reason to explore the world a bit more.

Conclusion:

Destroy All Humans 2 – Reprobed is a fun game. Although it’s a bit rough around the edges and the gameplay might be a bit too classic for some, it does offer a lot of fun too. It’s best to play this in shorter sessions but if you’re looking for a fun game to play to unwind after a hard day, this is certainly a great option!
