Prepare to be whisked away on a charming pixel adventure that will test your courage, reflexes, and survival instincts! Catlord in more ways than one delivers on these promises and does deliver quite the fun experience. Think Vampire Survivers but with our overlords, cats, as the main heroes. Needless to say, a cat dad such as myself, I just had to play this game. Sure, it begins off slow, you need to gather coins in order to get upgrades, which in return make you more coins which … you get it.
What I did not enjoy about the game, because let us face it, this game/genre is well tried and tested and the only things that differentiate between games are how they handle and eventual sneaky attacks if any. Catlord however has this weird quirk where you die even if you are not at 0 health. I have had instances where I died at a variety of health, be they may as low as they are, it still feels crappy. 1/5/6 and even 16 health were enough to kill my run. Really?
Another thing, this game has a lazy mode to harvest coin, you just do nothing and use all your money to either buy more speed of firing AND at the same time, magnetism. This will allow you to just stand there, do basically nothing and eventually, even be powerful enough to beat a few boss fights even. It kind of prevents you from doing the right thing and play properly, I just had the game auto-harvest coins when watching the One Piece live-action. It just had no fun because I was able to upgrade a lot for “no effort/free”.
In conclusion, all hail our overlords, cats. If the health bug gets fixed, raise the score by a full point.
