When you think of fighting games, you usually go back to the usual titles, Smash Bros, Mortal Kombat, the Street Fighter Series, … But let us not forget Guilty Gear, maybe not the biggest earworm when it comes to the genre, but very much a very important game series. Not known for being a high-paced brawler but more for being a technically loaded one.
Yes, you can’t just button mash, you need to carefully plan your every move. Like for example Sol Badguy, that name right, he is a slower guy, but has some serious fighting power and if you fully indulge in the tutorials, you really learn all there is to it. From dashing forward or back, from hitting to blocking, the whole deal really. I have not seen such a complete tutorial in a very long time and I must say I am amused to have seen the art of tutorials not being lost.
As a fighting game, this is a great game, from big brawls to faster characters with some nasty ass chops in their arsenal, I just had way more fun than I originally thought I would. I did not have the very best of experiences in the previous gameplay I had a year ago, looking back at it now. I do recall not every character being my thing and it has not changed since, but I must say that things have been smoothened a little.
I also very much enjoyed the fact that the title has a full-blown anime to tell us all about the story of Guilty Gear. I started with that and I just want more already haha.
