Welcome to our recap on the new demos from the Summer Game Fest! In this article, we talk about Tunic, The Tale of Bistun, Catlateral Damage, Faraday Protocol, and Godstrike.
Please keep in mind that these are demos and experiences and content might change according to the developer’s desire to further enhance their titles. What we played are demos and not full versions!
Tunic: Tunic was one of the titles that really caught my eye on the Xbox E3 Presentation, a fox in a robin hood style outfit, a Zelda Wind Waker feeling even. I was instantly downloading this demo as it became available and I must say this game is tough! An exploration adventure game in the style of classical Zelda, but with its own touch. You are on your to finding items throughout the world. Finding a stick, then a sword and before you know it, you die quite often in a dungeon where the enemies are very powerful but each having their own tale as to how to beat them! I cussed quite a bit at this game but am still intrigued to keep playing and see what the full game will be like!
The Tale of Bistun: By far one of the most promising demos I have played. A story that unfolds as the man whose name is unknown at first but revealed along the way as Farhad is in search of his memories. In this beautiful world, Farhad embarks upon an adventure against the powers of evil in this world. Liberating a tree that can bring back his memories, just one of many things you will do in this short demo. I simply adored the simplicity and beauty of this game so far. Easy combat, cool mechanics, and just an amazing story, this is one to try, guys and girls!
Catlateral Damage: So we all know how cats are thanks to memes, right? If they can topple something from a desk or throw it from a ledge, they will. This is everything this game is all about. Catlerateral Damage is all about causing mischief as a cat while keeping track of your energy. Once the energy is gone, the level is over. I must say this one is more of a meme rather than a real game. Not the best of ideas behind a game, but I can see cat lovers alike having their fair share of fun with this one. What does set itself apart, it shows it will have procedurally generated levels so the mischief will never stop, right?
Faraday Protocol: A first-person spatial puzzle game in a strange world. Wow, these are some intense puzzles, without any information at all, you have to figure out what to do in this small demo with 4 puzzles. The difficulty of these goes up every time and you will have to think all over the place, inside and outside the box, like one time, I had 4 different rooms to put together, do thing A in room B, to open lock C in room D and so on. It was simply a dream for the puzzle lover. I can not wait to see this masterpiece come to the Xbox!
Godstrike: A Twin-stick shooter where you do not have health, but a timer counting down. As the timer hits zero, your next hit is the final one! Ingenious as an idea, hard as nails in this bullet-hell shooter style game. Graphics appear what you’d expect for a game like this and the demo sure had me busy for more than one game of Godstrike. I do wonder if this game will have enough content to really appeal? (based upon the demo, that is).
