A roguelike game where you play as the devil himself! A new way to experience being the bad guy of the situation in this stunning game filled with amazing artwork, animations, voice acting, and gameplay. Rogue Lords looked amazing from the start and did not disappoint while playing! From Cyanide Studio and Leikir Studio and published by Nacon, with the first and last also known for the Blood Bowl franchise, this game has to be good!
In this Roguelike you play as the devil himself. You command a group of demons/monsters and many more. And since you’re the devil you can change some of the rules of the game! Why would the devil play fair, am I right? At the start, I had a team consisting of the Headless Horseman, Dracula, and Bloody Mary. These three develop and evolve their skills as they go and instill the world with fear and chaos.
The game has a couple of cool mechanics. One being the turn-based combat that is affected by ‘Action Points’ or AP. So, you can attack as long as you have AP left. Next are the events where you encounter a gravedigger, some witches, or a Demon slayer to be that is still trying to find his way. You can then choose how to deal with these interactions. Will you scare the living s*** out of the demon slayer to dissuade him from slaying your friends? Or do you help the witches escape the inquisition? Each of the possibilities relies on a percentage chance of success. And if you don’t agree with the percentages…. Change them, you’re the devil, who will stop you?
About stopping you? Well, there is one guy who has stopped you before and is ready to do it again! Van Helsing is not afraid of your return and you will have to play smart to gain an advantage over him! Level up your lords and their skills and collect souls along the way. The Grim Reaper might be interested in exchanging these souls for needed relics and upgrades! The way your main Lord walks from stage to stage is also a really fun take on the system. A lot better than just clicking and loading into the next level.
So in conclusion, Rogue Lords was extremely fun to play and the voice acting was above and beyond what you normally get in these types of games. The art style really fits the theme and the animations are smooth as butter! Do you like a good roguelike? Do you like to be the bad guy sometimes? Well, this game is recommended by me! I look forward to playing more of this game in the future!
