Welcome to our review of Active Neurons, a smart puzzle game that is all about finding a way to hit the target.
A little information about the work of the brain and neurons:
Our brain works much like a computer without the chip. Neurons are the primary components of the nervous system. They send and receive information in the form of electrical signals from the sensory organs, facilitating communication with the brain.
Nothing in the human body happens without the neurons knowing about it. Neurons perform the critical task of carrying information across the entirety of the human body.
The nerve cells transfer information by using both electrical and chemical signals. The death of brain neurons can lead to irreversible diseases (e.g. Parkinson’s disease) Do not forget to charge your brains! This is exactly what you need to do in the game, while simultaneously charging the neurons in real life!
Active Neurons is a game that trains spatial logical thinking.
By controlling the power of thought, you must charge neurons. The more charged neurons, the healthier our brain. The healthier the brain, the more fully-fledged life a person lives. It would seem that the task is very simple, but no. To choose the direction of movement, the power of thought should be at rest, so it is important for you to correctly use obstacles on the levels.
Avoid dangerous red thoughts, they are destructive. Unlock doors to new spaces by contacting yellow neuron. Destroy destructive red thoughts with positive green thoughts. Teleport from one space to another using purple neurotransmitters. Think, make a decision and look for the right path to neurons to charge them!
120 logical tasks; more than 15 types of unique mechanics; meditative music that creates an additional atmosphere in the game; Support for color blindness mode.
Active Neurons is about as smart as they come. When the developer sent me the review code, I was intrigued by the description of the game on Steam (this came out on Steam in 2019) and its images. Images I took to insert into my review in a way to show what this game is like. A very simplistic game that tempts your brain to go in overdrive and find the way to slide to the target.
Up, down, left and right, a 1 button game at its finest and let me be honest, I am a sucker for games like these and I admit that this is by far one of my favourites this year. The game starts off incredibly easy but becomes a pain in the ass rather quickly, not a single level is easy after about fifteen minutes and that is exactly what I loved about it. The deeper you dive into the game, the hardeer these puzzles become and the added difficulty is each time just very well balanced.
You are only limited to your own wits for this game. I had some games where I was able to find more than one way too finish the game. I also had one time where I had to call for the help button. I just couldn’t figure it out and it turns out it was as easy as taking the left turn instead of the right. I just loved the game even more at that time. I just wished there were more levels to this game.
Talking about levels, as a rather experienced puzzle game lover, I spent very little time finishing the game and I was just left with a big hunger to do more levels. I also worry that longevity and replayability is on the low side. I can see myself playing this gem again but I do not know when. I loved the sliding around, figuring out how to finally reach that one spot that I needed to be without running into a red or pink block, but I just wonder when I will be doing a second run.
In conclusion, Active Neurons is a great game to challenge your spatial thinking abilities and while the game itself is amazing, I sadly think it is short and I have my doubts wether or not I will ever play it again. I was originally going to give this game a 9.5, but the length sadly took it down to a 9!
