Welcome to our review of Cosmonauta, a very interesting approach to the platforming genre.
During a space expedition, our hero experiences issues with the navigation systems on his ship and now needs to face the dangers of the unknown to find his way back. Cosmonauta is a platform game in which players must overcome a world full of challenging puzzles, which require more than their reflexes, their determination.

Sporting several mechanics, the main goal is to get to the end of the 64 levels and let me tell you, even passing the 10 first levels is in itself worthy of a pat on your back. Cosmonauta is tough to play but so rewarding to finish. From bouncy parts to winds that force you forward. There is a level with some sort of jetpack in the beginning and it is so darn frustrating how it works.
Beating that level was a real pleaser for my confidence, only to get hit with an even more challenging level. Everything about this game is about perseverance and hanging in there to get to the end. Cosmonauta is hard and you should know it. Luckily most levels are quite short and the save points in between obstacles are a very welcome change from the usual approach of having to pass a level in 1 go.
When I was playing this game, obviously thanks to a review code, I did look up how much this game would normally cost and I was very pleasantly surprised to see 99 cents as its price point. I was about to write an entire piece about how some games are not providing enough bang for the buck, but Cosmonaut is doing the exact opposite. At a very low price point, the decision to buy this one should be easy.
Sure, the game is hard and not very long at a mere 64 levels, but the mental reward of acing that one level in just 1 try, indescribable really. As a platformer, Cosmonauta might not be the greatest, having to battle it out with some of the best games ever made in the same genre, I do feel it belongs in most gamers’ collections. The price point is what is charming me into plugging the game.
In conclusion, it is a shorter review but that is all fine, Cosmonauta will do the talking for me when you pick it up and try it out! Do beware, you must like some sort of self-punishment to truly enjoy it.
