For those of you who know me personally know, I got a soft spot for amiibo figurines. Right from the start I made it my goal to collect them all and I never stopped. In all those years, a lot of amiibo figurines hit the shelves but never did one reach the same level as the upcoming Link’s Awakening amiibo. After seeing it for real, I can only conclude this is the best thing ever made.
It’s so shiny
First things first, this has to be the shiniest amiibo out there. Unlike the other amiibo lines, this one is created using a shiny plastic instead of the normal amiibo plastic. If you own Spaltoon amiibo or certain Animal Crossing ones, you know how glossy some parts of those figurines can get. Well, imagine that same gloss all over one amiibo and you get an idea on how the Link amiibo looks like in real life. Spoiler: it’s pretty cute.
Not only that, it also mimics its virtual version of the Link’s Awakening remake perfectly. Creating an amiibo out of clay would be extremely hard and expensive to achieve so Nintendo had to find different ways in order to make things work. By giving it a glossy finish, it looks like the amiibo is made out of a different type of material, resembling moist clay. It’s a truly impressive achievement, especially when you compare this Link amiibo to the first Smash Link version. The manufacturers have come a long way but I think they finally delivered their masterpiece with this upcoming cutie.
The most adorable Link to date
Fans of The Legend of Zelda know that their favorite hero likes to change his appearance every now and then. Ranging from a brutal Twilight Princess Link to the Cartoony Wind Waker version, our hero has a lot of different faces. The one found in Link’s Awakening is possibly the cutest interpretation of our hero yet. While playing the game I had a constant smile on my face just looking at the cute little guy killing enemies with his small sword and picking up several items, all with that same small smile. It’s hard not to fall in love with the art of the remake and having a piece of that art in your hands is simply amazing. That’s why this is perhaps the most wanted amiibo in years. Not only because it’s Link and The Legend of Zelda has got a lot of fans, mostly because it’s a unique take on an iconic character, but a take you simply also can’t ignore. While playing the game, I saw a smile upon many faces, the same smiles appeared when those people walked past the upcoming amiibo. There’s something about it that makes you want to stop and appreciate the beauty of it, a thing not all amiibo figurines manage to achieve.
Enter Shadow Link
Of course, having an absolute adorable amiibo is great but what does it do in the game? Well, it will bring Shadow Link to the game! If you scan the adorable Link amiibo, Shadow Link will appear in the Dungeon Maker mode, giving you an extra challenge while clearing the room. It might sound small but this is actually some great usage of the amiibo functionality. Instead of giving you just a random skin, it gives you an extra challenge while playing. This in combination with how ridiculously cute the amiibo looks can only result in the best thing ever, I can’t wait to add this one to my collection this September.
