During the Nintendo Switch presentation we learned that the device’s battery will hold itself on the go from 2h30m to a decent 6h depending on the software running. But we all know the good games will be around the shorter timespan. Is it time to look for a good USB-C powerbank?
Powerbanks for smartphones have become popular and cheaper over the summer especially due to popular apps like Pokémon GO!
The Switch presentation has finally officially revealed it will rock the future proof USB-C connection as its power supply port and AV data port to output your games to your television. But if you’re someone who is willing to buy a Switch for on-the-go purposes you probably want to expand that earlier mentioned battery life.

How? Well I’ve quickly looked up some USB-C powerbanks and the prices range from affordable to costing half as much as your console itself. Now there is no way we know for sure that these will all work but it might be time to look into a good USB-C powerbank so you can save Zelda, defeat Kingpin Bowser or beat that Rainbow Road time trial while sitting in the park walking your dogon a sunny spring afternoon.
An expensive battery pack with a good USB-C output is the PowerOak K3 with its port outputting 12V 3.0A. It can charge laptops, smartphones and pretty much any USB-C device it says on the website. So there’s a lot of chance this one could charge up your Switch on the go! It retails around $180.

Another cheaper beast is the ZeroLemon ToughJuice with a whopping 30000mAh. This lemon juices up a 12 inch macbook without depleting completely. Though it is slower at charging it is very portable for its capacity and more friendly towards your wallet retailing around $80

The last one I found was the Anker Powercore Plus USB C 20100mAh. It’s a cheaper powerbank rocking a USB-C port outputting 5V/2.5A towards your Switch.
Now I don’t have a lot of technical knowledge but I can’t see why we wouldn’t be able to use a powerbank to charge up our Switches. Will the screen go black because it puts itself in TV mode? Are these powerbanks not outputting the correct voltage? I don’t know for sure, but it’s a question we will certainly ask ourselves starting March 3; How will you expand your battery life on the go?
