DLC: Mortal Kombat X Season 2

Mortal Kombat X Season 2 is upon us and is filled with lots of new goodies and even though the new improved online is not a part of the DLC I just wanted to take some time to commend NetherRealm for their tremendous effort. So Triborg, Bo Rai Cho, Leatherface and last but not least the Xenomorph from the Alien series join the Kast. So does the second season deliver or does it fail to impress? Let’s take a look alright.

So first let’s talk about The Pit. The classic Mortal Kombat stage makes it triumphant return to Mortal Kombat X and it looks better than ever. It looks even better than most stages in the game. The stage has this beautiful blue hue and the classic stage fatality is back and looks more gruesome than ever. Speaking of which. There are three new stage Fatalities. These three new fatalities are great and the one in The Cove is by far the best stage fatality in the series.

Another addition are the Mad Max-styled Apocalypse skins and they look great. Eron finally has a good alt and every single skin nails the apocalypse setting. Then there’s the Cosplay pack which is a genius idea that more games should do. Some female characters of the game can now dress up as the male ninjas of the game. Jaqui, for instance, has Scorpion’s attire and Cassie gets some smoke. It could be that there are more of those skins but I just haven’t gotten around to see them.

One thing I also like to mention is the new and improved netplay which takes after the GGPO system. It means that not only is the online more stable and responsive but instead of having input delay in matches, the game will just kinda freeze and continue when the connection stabilizes. It’s a major improvement compared to the old system so now the game’s online is even more enjoyable. But now on to the main attraction. The new characters.

First is Bo Rrai Cho. He stick out like a sore thumb simple as that. His moves involve vomit and farts and it’s just very childish. certainly considering the overall serious but still lighthearted situation. He has some funny intro quotes but overall is what could be considered a wasted slot. Speaking of which Leatherface from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre joins the fun and while I myself would consider it a wasted slot because he doesn’t really fit, he has some really fun moves. I really like the chainsaw twirl. Overall I think he doesn’t fit but at least, he’s fun to play.

It’s ridiculous to think that the Alien would not steal the show but here we are. I really like the idea that a face hugger impregnated Baraka and we got this cool dude. At first, he looks kinda weird but I got over that real quick. He’s really fun to play as and there is so much love and care put into him. He’s a blast. And lastly, there is the actual character that managed to steal the show. The Triborg. He’s smoke, Cyrax, Sektor AND Cyber Sub-zero in one. This is the first character with four variations and it’s really cool to see all cyborgs back. Their animations are amazing. This is the reason these variations were invented and showcase exactly why they exist.

And that’s that. Season two has some really cool ideas but half of the Kast in the DLC still feel like a waste of slots.

The new skins are great and the Pit looks gorgeous., but overall what I appreciate most is the improved online which makes it fun to play online; which is great because Mortal Kombat X is amazing.

As you might remember, we gave the original Mortal Kombat X a solid 9 out of 10 but if we had to score the Season 2 DLC alone, we give it a:
