Another day, another Zelda fun fact. This time we’ll learn more about jumping in Zelda games.
Did you ever wondered why there’s an auto-jump mechanic in the Zelda 3D games? Discover the secret inside.
At the start of the development of Ocarina of Time, the first real 3D game, you still had to push a button to jump. Nintendo created this jump feature using Super Mario 64 as example.
Later on during the development, the jump button was replaced with the auto-jump mechanic we know from all 3D Zelda games. But why was the button removed?
Nintendo did so to simplify the action and give more attention to the puzzles in the game. Nintendo didn’t want that gamers wasted too much time jumping around so they removed this feature. This way the focused shifted from action game to puzzle game.
