Review: Paw Patrol: Grand Prix

Paw Patrol, Paw Patrol, we’ll be there on the double! Whenever there’s a problem around Adventure Bay, Ryder and his team of pups will come and save the day. Marshall, Rubble, Chase, Chucky, Zuma, Skye, They’re on the way! Paw Patrol, Paw Patrol, whenever you’re in trouble; Paw Patrol, Paw Patrol, we’ll be there on the double; No job’s too big, No pups too small, Paw Patrol, we’re on the roll! Welcome to our review of Paw Patrol Grand Prix, don’t mind me. We were singing along to the super catchy lyrics of Paw Patrol. Let’s dive in. Paw Patrol, we’re on the roll!

For those still unsure, yes, I have little kids who like Paw Patrol, Peppa, Miffy, and the whole shebang. So when Paw Patrol rolled over in our inbox, I picked it up and brought it back to Outright Games with a review score. I’m not the biggest fan of racing games, but when I play them, I prefer Mario Kart style with all kinds of crazy powerups. Luckily I had my three-year-old next to me to help pick the pup and tracks we wanted to play (read: she, read: Skye).

Paw Patrol?

You’re probably not unfamiliar with Paw Patrol, but to be sure;

PAW Patrol is a Canadian computer-animated children’s television series created by Keith Chapman. The series focuses on a young boy named Ryder who leads a crew of search and rescue dogs called the PAW Patrol. They work together on missions to protect the shoreside community of Adventure Bay and surrounding areas. Each dog has specific skills based on emergency services professions, such as a firefighter, a police officer, and an aviation pilot. They all reside in doghouses that transform into customized vehicles, or “pupmobiles,” for their missions. They are also equipped with special hi-tech backpacks called “pup packs” that contain tools relating to the pups’ jobs.

Paw Patrol Grandprix

So in Paw Patrol Grandprix, it’s time to race since the PAW Patrol are on their fastest mission yet – To win the Pup Cup! Where no track is too big, no racer too small! Race around Adventure Bay, Jake’s Snowboarding Resort, and the Jungle as the PAW Patrol pups and up to 4 players at once – but look out for the obstacles left by mischievous Mayor Humdinger! For fans of the genre, it’s a feast of recognition since it features many locations we can all see and enjoy when we watch the show on tv or play one of the other games from the Paw Patrol IP.

Each racer (pup and non-pup) has its iconic kart and powerups, which we have seen and perfected before by Mario Kart and the likes. However, what makes Paw Patrol different is that my three-year-old can beat this game independently. Paw Patrol Grand Prix includes an easy control option for little ones with auto-acceleration to guide them around the track and a hard mode for experienced track stars. So, buckle up for a PAWsome race around 11 tracks with your best pup pals! I find it noteworthy that Outright Games created a game that my three-year-old can beat on her own, but even her father enjoys playing on the more complex difficulties. It’s the perfect game for young families who aren’t ready to put their children in the Gran Turismo seat.

Well Catered Content

With eleven tracks and a bunch of unlockable cosmetics and characters, there is enough to discover for both the seasoned player and the beginning Paw Patrol fan. With 20 stylish stickers and 20 topper items inspired by the show, there’s enough to create the most PAWsome-kart. It follows the more you race, the more you’ll unlock the principle. The powerups are clever and well thought out in relation to the characters they represent. The locations look crips and look great on docked and handheld mode.

Conclusion

So, to Pawclude, Paw Patrol Grand Prix is an excellent addition to the Nintendo Switch library and fits very well in both the age group three and up, as well as the age group in which you become a parent (not judging). For fans of the racing genre and Paw Patrol, it’s a significant step towards more complicated race games and feels like the perfect start for a young fan to see if the racing genre is something for them.
