Review: Timothy’s Night

Welcome to our review of Timothy’s Night, a new Playstation 5 exclusive from the Timothy game series…

Welcome to Little Fish City. It’s a great place to live, especially if you own it! Timothy is an oddball gangster, whose day-to-day life is interrupted by a full-color alien invasion. They’re here and nothing will be the same again! We’ve returned to Little Fish City, YOUR CITY, for Timothy’s Night: an open-world videogame full of action and adventure.

Timothy had a pretty normal childhood for a gangster, except for the part where he was abducted. When he was just a kid, he was taken by these weird-looking beings who gave him superpowers. Since then, Timothy’s done nothing except use those powers for his own benefit and now he controls the whole city. What Timothy neglected to remember was the part where aliens would come to conquer Earth… and now he’s the scoundrel who has to save us all.

Explore Little Fish City on foot or by car. Rubble, fires, crashing UFOs… I think the party might have gotten out of hand. Gain access to a powerful arsenal, with advanced DualSense™ integration. Give those triggers hell! Enjoy the main story but don’t forget about the many fun side quests scattered around the city. Reclaim Little Fish City in style as the bullets fly while listening to the city’s best radio station.

I know, I had never heard of the Timothy series either and with a first name like mine, you’d guess differently right? I did some proper research on this series beforehand and what I found, points towards a more niche game series, and well, based upon my time on YouTube, they seem like mediocre games that do have some sort of flair.

A flair that is mostly about the appearance of the game, a feat that is overly present in this game as well. I saw someone call the games a mix between a comic style, alien invaders movies like Mars Attacks, and old-school Chicago. Well, call it all that, add in some gangsters from the same era and well, this is your cocktail for Timothy’s night. A “shooter” with some minor platforming and well, the platforming part is done so right, I was very impressed by it at first. A leap is properly executed and before you know it, you are getting familiar with this part of the game.

The other part is a bit of a miss. At first, you only got a gun at your disposal and well, it is crap. I can not say it any other way but calling it crap. Luckily you will be getting more guns within the first hour of gameplay, my included video of actual gameplay can prove this as I started from the beginning of the game and stopped shy of a full hour. The machine gun is a lot more fun and handy to use.

It might be the number of aliens coming at you, seemingly endless spawns just about everywhere, most of the time, you really should just ignore them and run around as effectively as possible. Luckily the game reminds you non-stop of the controls because they are shown every single time the PlayStation 5 needs to load up the next part. Surprisingly so, the game is rather small in size, just over 2 gigabytes. I still can not believe this is a Playstation 5 exclusive, it is not that special.

In conclusion, Timothy’s Night is a game on that side of the spectrum that most gamers will forget about it right about 3 minutes after reading this review, but for those in for some cheap entertainment that is not too bad, just a bit boring at times due to the repetitive nature of the incoming aliens. I do think it could be fun enough to warrant a purchase at a lower price point…?
