Zelda: Fun fact day 8

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was and still is one of the most successful Zelda games ever made.

The sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask wasn’t that succesful as the previous game but was appreciated by fans worldwide. But did you know Nintendo didn’t plan to release this sequel?

After the success of Ocarina of Time, Miyamoto wished to continue the success by making a ‘Deluxe Edition’ for Ocarina of Time. This edition would launch on the Nintendo 64 DD (a Nintendo 64 with more storage space and better graphics) but was cancelled in production.

The ‘Deluxe Edition’ would be called Ura Zelda (Ura meaning another in Japanese) but Nintendo skipped finishing the game to start the development of Majora’s Mask. This gave Nintendo the time to finish the sequel and Majora’s Mask could still launch on the Nintendo 64.

The Ura Zelda was later on picked up for the special edition of The Wind Waker on GameCube. Ura Zelda is best known as the Master Quest nowadays.
