Indie Corner: Awesome Pea 2

Welcome to our review of Awesome Pea 2, the successor to a tough as nails platformer and it does not disappoint if you are into self-punishment!

Awesome Pea 2 – next chapter of classic platformer game.

Greedy Pea is back in the game! Now with even more dark dungeons, deadly traps and gold!

What you will definitely find in this game (again):
– Pixel gameboy-style graphics (when everything is green)
– 25 different levels
– Retro soundtrack (sounds like your old computer)
– Lots of shiny coins

I was lucky enough to play the first game too, or unlucky depending on how you look at it. This platformer is once more an ode to the original Game Boy era and it is once again tough as nails. The jumps are still perfect in every way, so is the masochism needed to play this game.

Don’t get me wrong, I love this game, but hot damn, it is a hard game. Timing needs to be damn perfect for literally every jump you make, almost like the game is no platformer at all, but an elaborate rhythm game disguised as a platformer.

Luckily there is no instadeath and having to restart from scratch. Finishing a level means that level is really done unless you want to collect all the coins and decide to go back in. I loved hurting myself and yeah, I did so in the first few levels. At around the fifth level, I was happy enough to skip it and just finish levels.

In my humble opinion, this game is suited for very few gamers out there, the sheer masochism needed to even continue on to the next level… You need some serious balls to play this marvelous game. Self-punishment included.

The part I personally despised the most, the flying enemies in the game that are timed so well that even your double jump needs to be executed so damn well, that it raises the hair in your neck when you miss the jump a fifth time in a row.

In conclusion, Awesome Pea 2 is easily one of the harder platformers out there, small in size both physically as in the amount of levels, but trust me, I doubt many of you can really handle all 25 levels this game brings to the table!
