Picross?
Picross is a picture logic puzzle game in which cells in a grid are filled in by following the number hints provided on the top and side of the grid. Once all the hints are filled in, a secret image reveals itself!
Haven’t I seen this before?
You may have! Picross has been around for quite some time. You may also know them as Nonograms, Hanjie, Pic-a-Pix, Paint by Numbers, or Griddlers. However, we have a secret twist to our puzzles! Unlike traditional games which limit your puzzle to one grid, our puzzles consist of 3 layers. As a portion of each layer is colored in, the final image will begin to form based on how all 3 layers blend together. Ensure each layer is correct, and you’ll reveal the final image and solve the puzzle!
Fun?
Sure, despite not really bringing anything new to the table, this is more of the same old. Obviously no problems there, picross in all its variants is fun to play, even the ones with multiple colors so this one too. Do not expect anything new, this is in all its attempts just more levels with the small added twist that it only reveals the art after three puzzles instead of one.
Surprisingly, what I remember mostly sticking out for this game, the soothing music. Usually nonogram games end up closed for the day due to the music being too repetitive and I did not experience this yet with Depixtion. It may be that I have yet to play very long hours of this game in a row, we all know I have been very busy streaming to our official Gaming Boulevard mixer channel and well, this is no game to “stream” really. It is more relaxing intended yet I did notice myself trying to go as fast as I can.
Those counters on the levels entice you to play with speed in mind instead of just sitting back and enjoying the game. That might be the sole thing wrong with the game. Intended for fun, but you end up challenging the clock.
In conclusion, Depixtion is just another nonogram game in many ways. It does not nothing to really stick out, but that is fine. More levels for the lovers of nonograms is basically how to approach this title. I like nonograms and did enjoy this one too.
