Opinion: Five characters who deserve a Super Smash Bros. Ultimate reveal

It’s happening, Nintendo is releasing a new Nintendo Direct this Wednesday, focused on the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo Switch. A new direct comes with tons of rumors and dreams. We dream ahead of five new characters that definitely deserve their spot on the Ultimate roster.

5. Waluigi (Super Mario)

Let’s start with the most obvious one: Waluigi! It’s already a running joke on the internet. Smash Ultimate includes every character except Waluigi. Fans are asking for Waluigi to be a playable character for years and almost everybody hoped Ultimate would be the game where it would finally happen. Sadly, we saw our beloved Waluigi returning as an Assist Trophy during the E3 presentation of the game. But what if this was just a cruel joke? Maybe Wario made it up so he won’t lose the spotlight! It’s a bit out of reach for sure but Waluigi really deserves his spot. I’m cheering for him this Wednesday!

4. Mimikyu (Pokémon)

When it comes to Super Smash Bros. Nintendo made sure that the Pokémon Company helped them with some new characters. Pokémon Sun and Moon are the newest additions in the Pokémon franchise and it won’t be until late 2019 that we see new Pokémon appearing on our screens. An inclusion of the Sun/Moon era is a rather logical one and I think Mimikyu might have a shot. Smash is known for making strange decisions and by adding Mimikyu, we can finally battle it with Pikachu to see who has the real power. Mimikyu for Smash? Count me in!

3. Isabella (Animal Crossing)

Moving on to a character that’s rumored to make her entry: Isabella, known from the Animal Crossing franchise. There are rumors floating around the internet, pointing out she’ll be in the game for sure and I tend to believe them. Isabelle would be a great fit for the roster since not only would she represent Animal Crossing a bit more, she would have an interesting moveset. Maybe her moves will be similar to the ones of the Villager but than again, Isabella comes across as a more soft-spoken character. That being said, she’s been standing in the battle arena quite some time now, maybe she secretly learned how to take everybody down.

2. King K. Rool (Donkey Kong)

Remember the time of the Super Smash Bros. Ballot where we could vote for our favorite character to appear in Smash Bros.? This was for the Wii U/3DS games but we learned that the information could be used for future installments at a later point in time. During the ballot, the internet wanted to add King K. Rool to the roster but eventually, I didn’t happen. Perhaps the development time did start working on the new character but he wasn’t ready in time? I think this would be a great addition to the roster and a big win for the Donkey Kong franchise.

1. Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes)

The character I would love to see the most in Ultimate is Travis Touchdown. He might be a bit of a mature and strange addition to the roster but he’ll look great next to Bayonetta. The No More Heroes games meant a lot for the Nintendo audience so what better way to honor the franchise by adding this wicked character to the roster? Could you imagine what kind of damage he would deal with that beam katana?
