DLC: Pokkén Tournament

Welcome to our initial thoughts on the Pokkén Tournament’s new DLC, Blastoise and Aegislash.

Long ago, Nintendo announced Pokkén Tournament DX for Nintendo Switch would be getting 2 new fighters and new support Pokémon pairs. Let us start off with all the bare essentials.

Blastoise and Aegislash are the 2 main fighters and the new support Pokémon pairs are Mimikyu and Mega Rayquaza for the first pair and legendaries Mew and Celebi as the other pair. Now that both are available, here are my impressions of the lot.

Aegislash came first and when he dropped, I was out of the game for a while. I admit, too many great games to really stick to Pokkén, as much as I liked it when I just got it, I did immediately get back into it! What I really noticed, after always playing with a faster Pokémon like Pikachu, Aegislash is a tactical Pokémon more than anything else. Slower to the move, a bit more sluggish feeling but quite cool the way the Pokémon moves and attacks. Did I really like him? I can’t say I would make him my first choice, but I did think he was cool enough to spend a few more hours with him.

Next up is Blastoise. Blastoise is the original starter, the one we all wanted and well, he is awesome. Slow but very impressive and big, just as you’d expect him to be. Again my remark about preferring a faster Pokémon sticks, but I must say, Blastoise is a Pokémon that really appeals, with more hardcore moves and that watergun is just so damn cool. The lack of speed is something that is not a problem as his attack patterns do allow for some better moves, especially compared to Aegislash, but that is my personal opinion, your mileage on this statement may vary. Everyone interprets these things very much on their own so yeah ^^

Next up, the support pairs, my favorite here by far is Mega Rayquaza, but I do love Mew as well. Like all other pairs, you get a slight assist or boost when they come on, they are really nicely animated and perform just like the others.

Pokkén

Is the DLC Worth it both for the characters and as a higher priced DLC?

I honestly think it is worth it for the characters, it gave Pokkén a new lease on life for me. For me and probably for most people out there, the main attraction is having Blastoise!

Though some might not agree with the DLC price for just Blastoise, I do think that in combination with Mega Rayquaza, he might be worth the cash. You could also use some golden points to help pay for it.
