Review: Nine Parchments (Nintendo Switch)

Today I am going to talk about a video game where you play as a wizard, well not a real wizard yet, more like a student wizard. I know what you think, is there a new Harry Potter game? But I hate to break it to you that this game has absolutely nothing to do with the Harry Potter franchise and the only similarities between the two is the wizard theme and the British voice acting.

Nine Parchments as an Action RPG game where you play as a student who leaves his wizard training for a while to save his world by going on an amazing journey and defeat an evil force. To get to the evil force you have to go through multiple levels where you level up your character and learn new spells.

When it is the first time you play the game there are only 2 wizard students to pick from but the more you play the more new characters with new abilities you will unlock. Replaying the story with a different wizard can add new flavor to your experience.

The Combat in Nine Parchments is very intense and chaotic. To defeat enemies you have to use your spells right but it is totally up to the player which spells you keep in your arsenal. Some spells are single-target and do tons of damage while others are area effects and others provide utility but they all have an elemental effect and a mana pool for each spell. This is very important because some enemies are fire enemies and are immune to fire attacks so it is very important to have a diverse spell roster in order to defeat enemies. Each level has many different enemies with different elements so you are forced to swap between spells constantly and manage your mana pool accordingly.

nineparchments2Nine Parchments is a very fun game but can be hard and repetitive if you play alone. It’s just way more fun to play this game with your friends and I think this game was made to enjoy it with friends. Of course, there is a local multiplayer option where you can join in at any time with up 4 players and defeat evil together. But it is probably unlikely that there are constantly 3 friends over to beat the 10-hour campaign…

Luckily there is an online multiplayer that is running surprisingly well it is very easy to join in the adventure of a friend to defeat the game together or just help him with that particularly hard level.

Verdict:

Nine Parchments is a very fun game that I think that everybody will enjoy but if you play it alone you will get kind of bored after a while and just play the story once. Luckily this game has amazing features to play with your friends online and offline that keep you playing this game over an over to see who is the better wizard.
