It’s almost December, we all know what that means, right? Endless family dinners and fun evenings together with colleagues or friends. Evenings like those often are used to play some party games on your favorite console. With Knowledge is Power on PlayStation 4, Sony got you covered. This isn’t your regular TV-show quiz, it’s a lot more fun!
Before you start
Right after you start the game for the first time, you’ll quickly notice this isn’t your regular quiz. The game is one of PlayStation’s new PlayLink games and enables players to participate with their smartphones. They can transform their smartphones into controllers by simply downloading the free app (the app can also run a mini-quiz without connection to the actual game). Once installed, you’ll need to be on the same Wi-Fi network as your console and you’re ready to go. The technology behind this works perfectly and never did we suffer from lag or an input delay. Six players can play together by simply downloading the app, making it a lot cheaper than having to get six separate controllers. When everybody’s ready, you need to pick a character, take a hilarious selfie and select the first category of the actual quiz.
Time to quiz
Now, for the actual quiz, Knowledge is Power offers enough fun trivia questions to keep you going. The themes vary from casual themes like movies to more difficult ones like science. Based on the first category you pick, the game will continue to ask questions about the same object. Of course, this means that you’ll want to get the first question in exactly the theme you want most since it will drastically affect the rest of the game. This is the first form of deeper strategy found in the challenging quiz. Besides that, the game is also based on time. Whoever answers fastest, gains most points. To make it even better, you’ll get your hands on special powers to make the lives of your opponents harder.
These powers are intended to slow down your opponent, think of bombs blocking your way or slime you have to clean before you see the actual answers. Answering the questions all happens on your smartphone and again, this simply works great. The game offers 12 rounds with trivia questions and three special ‘doors’. Behind the doors, you’ll have to connect the right duo or sort the answers to the correct direction on your screen. The last one is the finale of the quiz, being a giant pyramid. Based on your score in the previous rounds, you’ll get a place on the pyramid. The first to reach the top is the winner of the quiz. Since every question comes with a power to slow you down, everything can still happen during this finale, making it rather thrilling until the very end.
Strong presentation
That being said, Knowledge is Power offers everything for a fun evening together with your family and friends. To make everything even better, the game looks extremely good. It’s a fun visual style that tries to mimic a television show in a fun way. The characters all look crazy and will result in some fun selfies before the start of the actual quiz. Besides strong visuals, the commentator also goes all out with fun comments during the quiz, a shame you’ll often hear the same comment but that’s something you can simply ignore.
Conclusion:
Knowledge is Power is the perfect PlayLink game, demonstrating the technology in the best way possible. It’s a lot of fun to invite friends over, let them install the app on their smartphone and instantly play together. The quiz offers enough variation to keep you motivated and the powers give a fun and challenging twist to the course of the quiz. If you’re looking for a fun family game, look no further, this is the one you need to get!
