Indie Corner: League of Evil (Nintendo Switch)

Welcome to our review of the new League of Evil game on Nintendo Switch!

Imagine living in a world where you are a bionic commando tasked to remove all evil from the world. The Evil all joined together in the League of Evil and now, you need to jump, somersault and punch your way through very short 8-bit styled levels.

Sounds easy right? Wrong! This game is not easy, it is challenging!

Despite the small form factor of levels, they designed this game to be challenging all along the way, you can grab the briefcase in the level or head straight for the bad guy and eliminate him by punching your way through him.

Evade all obstacles along the way, ranging from goons carrying guns, the electrical enemies going up and down walls, the pits and so much more. The controls of our bionic commando are made so that it is not super easy to maneuver around the level, but you will get the hang of them as you play through more and more levels.

One thing that did annoy me about the controls, when you perform the double jump, you end up somersaulting which is not easy to handle. It often over jumps your direction and it often made me fall down pits or into enemies ready to fire.

A very big part of this game revolves around speed running the levels, the faster you go, the more stars you get! This is also where the real challenge lies and where replayability comes to mind. Sure, you can finish a level and move on… But really, is that all you want to do or do you want to ace this game and go all out?

An added bonus to a great game, the level editor, you can make devilish levels yourself for this League of Evil game and share them with other players! When I played, there were already so many levels available for download, it felt like this game could provide near endless fun!

One thing that I really liked about downloading extra levels, is the fact that they made packs! You can download one by one or just entire random packs or the best selection of them, this is a feature I really loved. From what I saw, this is limited to 300 downloadable levels.

In the previous picture, you can see what I like to call the number of shame, top right, the times you replayed a level.

In conclusion, this game is fun but challenging. The level editor is where this game excels and I am sure most players will love that aspect as much as I did. The normal levels are blessed with excellent chiptune music.

My rating for this game is 80%, the controlling issue-part is what prevents it from rating higher, those jumps really could some tweaking in my humble opinion.
