KarmaZoo can best be described as a game that will show the fun of online games. It’s not about winning, it’s about working together in unique ways. Does it succeed in this? Let’s find out!
It’s all about the group
KarmaZoo is a unique multiplayer game where you’ll have to work together as one. With 50 playable characters, all with their own powers, you’re able to make a difference. You’ll platform and fight your way through the levels and have the ability to help each other out. If you’re playing as a character who can create a small platform, for example, you’re able to help the other players cross over certain points. By helping them, the other players will reward you with karma, which is the game’s only currency. The goal of the game is to clear the level but as long as one player reaches the end, everyone gets rewarded. It’s not a race or a competition, it’s an example of working together and demonstrating the power of teamwork. A unique twist that will certainly introduce a new way of playing online games. Since you’re all getting rewards, keeping one player alive and helping the character reach the end is your main concern. Even when you die, you can use your little ghost to create platforms from special blocks in the level. You’re all in this together until the end.
KarmaZoo offers a different type of multiplayer co-op and it’s a nice fresh breeze in the gaming landscape. KarmaZoo is all about helping out your fellow friends and making sure one of them reaches the end of the level so you can all earn some sweet sweet karma. The more karma you’ll collect, the more characters you’ll unlock, with 50 playable characters, the titular Zoo isn’t exaggerated at all. The fun thing about the levels is the fact that not everyone must reach the end, when you fail, you’ll become a cute little ghost, in this state, you can still help out the others by forming blocks for example. Players can reward your actions with karma so be sure to always be a team player!
Showcasing the fun in online games
KarmaZoo is on a big mission, it wants to show the fun of online games, even for newcomers. Online gaming isn’t for everyone and a lot of gamers are a bit afraid of entering the online battlefields. What if you can’t play the game that well? What about the infamous internet trolls? Well, no need to worry, everything in KarmaZoo screams fun and working together. The main levels are well-designed and offer challenges for every skill level, you can also pick certain cards at the start of the level for some surprises. Some might increase your chances while other cards just might add saxophone music to amp the fun even more. Although the levels in KarmaZoo aren’t that big and it doesn’t take you that long to play everything, there’s a huge replay value thanks to the fun and the different characters. I played all my KarmaZoo sessions with a big smile while learning the abilities of my cute, Tamagotchi-like character. That’s the charm of KarmaZoo and that’s also the reason I kept coming back for one more round. Looking for a more casual co-op experience? Enter the Totem-mode.
Couch co-op madness
Although the main mode of the game is all about working together, the more competitive TOTEM mode offers a different side of the core gameplay. In this mode, you’ll play a couple of fun and chaotic mini-games where being the first one to clear them is the goal. It’s not about working together at all, this local co-op mode is all about competition in its most fun form. We played a mini-game where we had to lit as many candles as possible, eat as much as possible, or reach the end of the level as fast as possible in a chaotic race. There are a couple more mini-games of course but you get the main idea. It’s a great addition to the core game and adds a lot of extra fun for the local co-op gamer.
Conclusion:
I used the word ‘fun’ a lot in this review but that’s the beating heart of this original multiplayer game. It’s super cute and super fun to play although it doesn’t that much. The different characters do add great replay value which will make you come back for another round for sure. If you’re looking for a cute wholesome multiplayer experience, this is the one to play.
