PROTECT THE INNOCENT AND UPHOLD THE LAW!

Finding out a Robocop game was coming, was a mixed bag of emotions for me. The movies were at best a pleasant waste of time for a mindless evening in front of the TV and I say that nicely. Robocop is mostly a cult thing and well, it has its place in movie history and that is about it for the majority of us. Enter this game and well, I was skeptical, to say the least. Were we getting a purely shooter-style game or do we somehow also get actual policing involved?

Well, we actually got the better of both worlds, from mindless target practice while using random hoodlums and gangsters as targets, to all the way policing duties, like writing random tickets, and having civilians turn in reports to side missions. I must say I am incredibly impressed at how lifelike this game is really. From the slow movements of Robocop himself to the incorporated skilltree that can make your experience actually better with every skill point you get. Nothing beats a small rush to take down any incoming enemy especially when they are riding their bikes. The fun of taking them down, then picking up their bikes and throwing it at another biker, it really is a priceless experience.

What I didn’t like much, though it is probably the most lifelike of all, Robocop is not the quickest to move around. After you enter a place for your current investigation and need to track back your steps, it feels incredibly tedious and slow to do so. Luckily almost everything is “close” to each other, that part does handle a lot of your issues at hand, though at times I would love to just be able to skip returning to my car at the end of a mission, just to bypass the long walk “home”. Just a detail, but it is what kept me annoyed more than once.

In conclusion, Robocop: Rogue City is a game that is a lot more fun and has way more depth than you’d initially expect it to be. Some minor issues prevent me from going all out 9/10, but the 8.5 is well deserved. This game is much better than what you’d expect.
