Review: Alchemist Simulator

Welcome to my review of Alchemist Simulator on Playstation and it turned out to be a total waste of my time. This game is not playable without a keyboard/mouse at all.

Take on the role of a novice student of alchemical arts, taking over the studio of your famous relative. Will you ever match his legend? Take the challenge to become the most famous alchemist in history! Become a powerful magician! Thanks to Alchemist Simulator, you can feel the thrill of excitement associated with the world of magical ingredients (dragon egg – what to deal with it?), spells, and discovering ancient recipes. Will you brew a love potion or a poison?

Discover an amazing world full of ancient, forgotten recipes and ingredients. Experiment. Be patient and hungry for knowledge. Fortunately, you are not alone – your extraordinary mentor will help you explore the previously unknown arcana of alchemical knowledge and art! Your eternal glory, gold and … knowledge are at stake!

Who is an alchemist without his precious book? Almanac is your greatest treasure – so take care of its content! Carry out various experiments and note their effects carefully, and soon … no recipe, contract or order will keep secrets from you. Remember – each magician’s source of knowledge is experience, and these – you must first write down, preferably on a solid parchment and seal with a spell before prying eyes.

Along with the fame that surrounds you, responsibility will also increase – the order box will be full of more and more complicated potion orders. So it’s time to take care of the workplace. Spend hard-earned gold on improvements to your studio to be able to brew increasingly difficult recipes for your customers!

While all that is true, it should be noted that this review took the most time ever of my life without the feeling of having had a fun experience, if anything, it was purely excruciating and incredibly annoying with a controller. All the camera views were basically shite and I want to be clear on how much I truly despise the design decisions made on this game for consoles and controller players.

The point of view, which is basically a dot on the screen, that you need to follow in a way that is both slow and never really precise. Just pointing at something to highlight it, pure hell. It just does not work to blatantly port a mouse-driven game to consoles without actually thinking things through and this is clearly the case.

Just the entire basics of the game, finding out where things are, excruciatingly painful really. I actually wanted to rage quit this game 5 times before finally calling BS on this game and everything it stands for.

If you want to play an alchemy game, go for the Atelier games, Potion Permit, … but skip this horrible experience. A big fat ZERO score and I would even rate it a waste of effort on my behalf. This may be enjoyable on PC but it is crappy as fck on PlayStation.
