Welcome to our preview of Crisis Core, the prequel to the Final Fantasy VII game and it tells the story of Zack, Angeal, and Sephiroth.

CRISIS CORE –FINAL FANTASY VII– REUNION is the HD remaster version of the smash hit prequel to FINAL FANTASY VII. In addition to all graphics being remastered in HD, fully voiced dialogue and new soundtrack arrangements make for a dynamic new retelling of a beloved classic.

CRISIS CORE –FINAL FANTASY VII– REUNION follows the story of Zack Fair, a young warrior admired by the boy destined to save the world, trusted by men renowned as heroes of legend, and loved by the girl who holds the fate of the planet in her hands. The tale of Zack’s dreams and honor—the legacy that connects him to Cloud—is revealed in full in this grand saga that has broken the limits of an HD remaster.

Originally from 2007 on the Playstation Portable, this game was known for its high sales worldwide and while being exclusively on the PSP, many gamers are now getting a real chance to play this game on a modern console for the first time, myself included, despite being one of the players back in the days with a PSP, I did not buy this game until a few years ago and never really got around to playing it.

Not that I was not interested, on the contrary, I just prefer playing on the TV nowadays and I would not see myself playing a full Final Fantasy game on a handheld with such a small display, I know, the Nintendo Switch has spoiled us. Queue the announcement this game was coming out this year and my interest once again peaked for the game.

I have now played a few hours and while I dislike spoilers and want to avoid them, I can to some extent shed a light on the initial hours of the game. As a prequel to the original epos, you are playing as Zack, a good guy on the side of Shinra, which is unusual if you have played the FF7 game, I can admit easily that it was the same for me.

You start the game where you learn that one of the three friends, Genesis, has seemingly become a traitor. You and Angeal are tasked to investigate and head out to find out what is up. Shortly after, you learn that it is not just Genesis but also Angeal that has become a traitor, leaving Zack with more questions, and together with Sephiroth, you set course to find out what went wrong.

Along the way, finding out that there are copies of Genesis in the enemy force and that not everything is as it seems. Sadly this is where I stop divulging part of the story as I would very much like you to experience this yourself.

I will say one more thing though, based on the first 3 chapters and several missions played, this game is spicy. Imagine you are eating some fries and someone offers you a new sauce to go with them. You grab a fry, dip it into the unknown sauce and when it hits your mouth, you just go… Spicy! That is how the game is, more intense so far as well as more difficult than I personally expected. I will explain all this in my full review when that comes out so keep your eye on our website!
